Special to Atmore News

Gamma Omega Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held the February meeting of 2018 on Valentine’s Day in the conference room of Atmore News.
President Nancy Karrick called the meeting to order. Sherry Digmon gave the devotional and was responsible for the Valentine-themed decorations and refreshments. Members chose candy conversation hearts and read those when answering roll call.
Members were updated on the chapter officer situation. Due to the resignation from the position, First Vice President Nancy Karrick assumed the office of president. That position remains unfilled.
“Love One Another” was the title of the afternoon program. Members made flower pins from used quilts which represented the diversity of schools and jobs chapter members hold, with the center button securing all members together into one chapter. Members were encouraged to reach out to other educators and invite them to join our chapter and become a part of the larger international society.
The March 14 meeting will begin at Atmore News and then move on to Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry to learn more about the food bank there. One of the chapter projects for the biennium will be helping to stock the food pantry through donations of food items.
Members were reminded about the Alabama State Convention in Huntsville February 22-24, and encouraged to attend.
Present at the meeting were Evelyn Bilbo, Sherry Digmon, Connie Hetrick, Nancy Karrick, Trachy Miller, Sissy Phillips, Leigh Ann Rowland, and Wendy Stafford. Myrna Monroe was a guest at the meeting.
