Bessie Kahanek Lee

Mrs. Bessie Kahanek Lee, age 98 of Century, Fla., passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Wallis, Texas to the late Joseph J. and Frances Kahanek. She graduated from Wallis High School. She then went on to become a Rosie the Riveter during WWII. She was a member of the NARFE and Byrneville Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilford John Lee; three brothers, Robert Kahanek, Joe Kahanek and Henry Kahanek; three sisters, Frances Bartay, Alice Magee and Julia Kahanek and granddaughter, Katherine “Katie” Lee.

Mrs. Lee is survived by one son, John Robert Lee of Century; one daughter, Janet (Todd) Shultz of Brewton; two sisters, Ann Webb of Arizona and Lillian Boryla of Ohio; three grandchildren, Rebecca Shultz, Justin Shultz and Jacob Shultz; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Lowe, Daylon Brown, Isabelle Barber, Jasmine Barber and Michaela Barber and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bo Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Byrneville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Steve Turner, Curtis Moye, Jeremy Pridgen, Jason Barber, John Lee and Kenneth Jernigan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Doran and Gene Findley.

Billy George Griffis

Mr. Billy George Griffis, age 63, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at his home in Century, Fla. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Century for most of his life. He was truck driver, mechanic and a jack of all trade. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Della Griffis and brothers, Robert Griffis and Marty Griffis.

Mr. Griffis survived by one son, Billy Tyler (Ashley) Griffis of Atmore; three daughters, Hillary (Kenny) Griffis of Atmore, Latasha (Casun) Caraway of Pace, Fla. and Jennifer (Pat) Marns of Beulah, Fla; two brothers, Keith Griffis and Rodney Griffis, both of Century; six grandchildren, Zayden, Avayah, Zayun, Embrey, Mallory and Megan and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Mitch Herring officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday, December 23, 2019 from 9 a.m. until service time at 10: a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Josh Griffis, Kenny McIlwain, Nikki Odom, David Odom, J.J. Hunter and Jamie Gafford.
