Five Escambia Academy seniors took to the football field for one last round during the 2019 AISA All-Star Football Game, played last Friday, December 6, at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
Jason “Jaybo” Davis, Shannon “Lolo” Wheat, Tiquale Taylor, Tyler Newton and Bryant Quimby represented the Cougars as members of the West All-Stars team.
“It was a special honor,” EA assistant coach Mike Sims said. “These guys have all been leaders of our team and were great representatives of our school.”
Wheat, who scored on a 50-yard carry that put the West All-Stars up 7-0 in the second-period, took MVP honors for his team. Taylor had two receptions for 23 yards; Quimby was honored as a team captain; Newton played right guard, and Davis played several positions on both sides of the ball.
The East All-Stars won the game, 31-13.
“It is a bittersweet moment when you think that this is their last game in a Cougars uniform,” Sims said. “During the course of the years, you spend so much time with these kids. It is bittersweet to witness them end their careers in the right way. They are all leaders and work hard on and off the field. It is a blessing to work with these guys.”
