Atmore police blocked off several streets in the city’s northeastern sector Tuesday night (December 12) as they searched for the person or persons who robbed the North Main Street ABC Store earlier Tuesday evening.
According to unconfirmed reports from reliable sources within law enforcement, either one or two masked and armed bandits entered the state-operated liquor store shortly after sundown and demanded cash.
After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the duo fled on foot into the warren of short streets and neighborhoods behind the store.
For several minutes police blocked off Alabama 21 from Snappy’s Car Wash to a point just north of Walmart, but the search soon moved eastward into the Patterson Street-Carver Avenue area.
Police were still conducting their search at 7:30 p.m., and motorists were urged to stay out of the area if at all possible. A police spokesman also urged anyone who sees one or more suspicious persons in their neighborhood to call 911 immediately and report the sighting.
