Shelter to open in Atmore at 4 p.m.

Stomp the Yard cancelled
The 11th Annual Stomp the Yard event, scheduled for noon-5 p.m. today at Houston Avery Park, has been cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather. Dr. Bernard Bishop reported shortly before 8 a.m. that the annual youth celebration probably could have been completed before anticipated winds arrive, but the threat of rain throughout the afternoon was the deciding factor. Storm preparedness update from city hall
Be prepared. Stay off the roads. Be safe. That’s the message that came from Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks Friday afternoon. At 2:30 Brooks held a meeting with the media, Mayor Jim Staff, Atmore Fire Chief Ron Peebles and Captain Daniel Love, Street Department Manager Calvin Grace, and APD Office Manager Samatha Bennett.
