Athletes enjoy Super Fun Day
As the athletes got off the buses and headed toward the gym, cheers went up. Volunteers lined the walkway and applauded and sometimes exchanged a high five with athletes. Council recognizes YMCA, Karrick
Monday’s, April 24, Atmore City Council meeting was a time of recognition for a local agency and an individual. Atmore Area YMCA CEO Paul Chason addressed the council to talk about Healthy Kids Day this Saturday. About 200 kids will be playing soccer that day. Several months ago I made this note on my calendar for Monday, April 24: “ACM last PTO meeting.” ACM is, of course, A.C. Moore Elementary School. Bitter-sweet band concert
Escambia County High School Band Director Hayley Cockrell called the concert bitter-sweet. It was the spring concert, held Thursday evening, April 20. Bitter-sweet because this is the last concert of the year for this band. And bitter-sweet because 10 of her band members are seniors. Legion honors Norris
American Legion Post 90 honored Raymond Norris at the post’s meeting Tuesday, April 11, for his 60 years of membership. Norris, 98, was an Army Air Corps mechanic during World War II. He is the third member of Post 90 to achieve 60-year membership. Haskew Middleton (73 years) and Jack Wright (61 years in June) are the others.
