Alabama Lions Multiple District 34 held their state convention in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, April 18-21. Those attending from Atmore were Lions Bub Gideons and Nancy Karrick.
Atmore should be proud because Lion Bub Gideons was the Council Chair and presided over the whole convention. To non-Lions, Council Chair translates to President. Gideons has represented Atmore in high-level positions for the last several years and has done them quite successfully as evidenced by reports and attendance at the convention.
While there, attendees had the privilege of working at Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller in Tuscumbia, at a Lions Workday, where they participated in everything from window washing, tree and shrub pruning, and pulling weeds around monuments, to inventorying memorial bricks composing the walkway. They also took tours of the inside of the home and grounds as well as going to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. It was not all play as the organization’s worldwide mission was discussed and Alabama business taken care of. Lions were inspired by International Director Ron Keller, who resides in Ohio, and delivered an enlightening address on the work Lions is doing, not only in Alabama, but worldwide, especially as it relates to eyesight and blindness.
Anyone in the Atmore area who would like to become involved in Lions and the work it does, not only around the world, but also right here in Atmore, is welcome. Our meetings are held the first and third Wednesday at noon at the Mayson Auditorium in Atmore Community Hospital.
Also feel free to call Lion Bub Gideons at PHD Realty, 251-359-6523, or club president Renee Hardy at United Bank.
