Atmore police continued this week their search for a young black man who robbed a local convenience store at gunpoint early Saturday, December 7.
According to a press release issued Monday by Police Chief Chuck Brooks, police were called to the Kangaroo Express (Circle K) store at 901 West Nashville Avenue, where a clerk reported that a pistol-wielding individual had robbed the store.
The call came in at 2:07 a.m., and APD patrol officers arrived on scene almost immediately and met with the store clerk, who was unharmed.
The cashier told officers that a male, dressed in all black clothing with a red cap bill sticking from beneath his hoodie, came into the store and asked about the price of a particular brand of cigarettes.
The clerk reportedly checked the price and turned to tell the fake customer, who brandished a firearm and demanded cash.
The clerk gave an undisclosed amount of cash to the bandit, who then fled the store on foot.
APD officers established a perimeter of several blocks around the store and searched for the suspect but were unable to locate him.
APD investigators were sent to the store to process the crime scene.
They are still working the case, and anyone who can identify the suspect or provide other information related to the robbery is encouraged to call 251-368-9141 and speak to an investigator.
