Ringing the bell at Trinity

Fr. Albert Kennington joyfully rings the bell

When Father Albert Kennington committed to serving at Trinity Episcopal Church the first Sunday each month, he wanted to revive a particular tradition – the ringing of the church bell on Sunday morning. His first Sunday at Trinity, which was Easter Sunday, he tried to ring the bell, but the rope broke.
On Sunday, June 1, Fr. Kennington began the church service at 10 a little differently. Rather than processing down the aisle to the front of the church, he stood at the front and asked everyone to fall in behind him and walk to a back corner of the sanctuary – the location of the bell rope. It had been repaired. Everyone had an opportunity to ring the old bell for the first time in … who knows how many years.
The bell is believed to be the original bell installed when the church was built 125 years ago.
Speaking of Fr. Kennington, he will be honored next Sunday, 10 a.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination.
Trinity Episcopal Church holds a Holy Eucharist service the first Sunday each month with Fr. Kennington officiating. However, he will also conduct the service June 15 which is Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost. Trinity Sunday celebrates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
