The Greater Escambia County Council for the Arts (GECA) opens a new show this week – “The Red Velvet Cake War” opens Thursday, April 25, and runs for two weekends. Shows will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 25, through Saturday, April 27, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 28, and at the same times and days the following weekend, Thursday, May 2, through Sunday, May 5.
Tickets are $12 each and available at the door or online at gecarts.org. There will be a short intermission and all concessions are $1.50.
Directed by Scotty White, this Southern style comedy involves three mischievous cousins who, bent on hosting the annual family reunion, resort to criminal tactics to win a “best red velvet cake” bet with the matriarch of the family amidst chaos and a failing A/C on the hottest day in July in the middle of Texas tornado season.

Upcoming auditions
Auditions for the summer production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at GECA. Male and female roles for children ages 6 and up, plus some adult roles available. Performances set for mid- to late June.
