James Alvin “Jimmy” Powers        

Powers

Mr. James Alvin “Jimmy” Powers, age 84, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 in Bay Minette, Ala.  He was born in Limestone County, Athens, Ala. to Floyd and Louise Collins Powers.  He was a bus driver with Escambia County Alabama School System and attended Atmore First Assembly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Anthony Powers; his brothers, Calvin “Lib” Powers, Pete “Inis” Powers, Bud Powers and D.C. Powers; his sister, Shirley Powers.

Mr. Powers is survived by his wife, Edna Mae Powers; his children, James (Thelma) Powers, Timothy (Kristie) Powers and Vanessa (Todd) Dunn; his grandchildren, Kayla Powers, Brittany (Brandon) Hetrick, Charles Aymond and Jennifer (Jalen) Moorer; his great-grandchildren, Isaiah “Mr. Alvin”, Joshua “Joshy Pooh”, Zack “Jack”, Zoey “Joey”, Andrew “Worrywart” and Raedyn “Squirt” along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Davis officiating.  Interment followed in Bowman Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Isaiah Hetrick, Joshua Hetrick, Brandon Tedder, Zack Hetrick, Randall Tillman, Gabriel Aymond and Charles Aymond.

The family received friends Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Alfred Donald Wilson 

Mr. Alfred Donald Wilson, age 70, of El Dorado, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in San Angelo, Texas. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and has lived in Texas for the past thirty plus years. He was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Air Force. He spent his lifetime in the oilfield holding many different jobs throughout his career. He was also an onsite geologist. He loved his children and grandchildren always finding time to spend with them, he greatly enjoyed family gathering. He was a jokester, enjoyed playing games, traveling and barbequing. He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ethal Enzer Wilson; brother Harold Wilson; sister, Betty Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his son, Joshua Adam (Stephanie) Wilson of El Dorado, Texas; two daughters, Jamie Dumas of Mobile, Ala. and Brandy Wilson of Rocksprings, Texas; mother of his children, Patty Walker of Irvington, Ala.; grandchildren, Caitlin Dumas, Ashley Dumas, Joey Dumas, Isaiah Wilson, Jeremiah Wilson, Elizabeth McNeil, Alex Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Logan Wilson, and Owen Wilson; great-grandchildren, Tobias Dumas, Emeberly Cooks, Damien Watson and Roman Watson.

Catherine James McKinley                         

McKinley

Mrs. Catherine James McKinley, age 72, of Nokomis, Ala. passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024.  She was born in Atmore, Ala. to Harold and Ruby Drew James. She was a 1969 graduate of Escambia County High School.  She was a member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. She worked at Atmore Public Library for twenty-six years and was the librarian for the last eleven of those years. She also helped her husband as bookkeeper of McKinley’s Auto Service for forty-one years.  

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Steve and her parents.

Mrs. McKinley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Chris Wilson; her grandsons, Dustin (Ashley) Wilson and Steven (Maddie) Wilson; her great-grandchildren, Kasen Luke Wilson and McKinley Kate Wilson; her siblings, Sandra (Gary) Hare and Joan (Gerald) Malone and caregiver, Renee Rolin.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore with Bro. Don Davis officiating.  Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Chris Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Steven Wilson, Jeff Malone and Will Malone.

Linda Pauline Weaver

Mrs. Linda Pauline Weaver, age 61, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in Crossroads, Ala. She was a resident of Crossroads most of her life. She was a seamstress with many years with Manor Slacks. She was an avid Alabama football fan; loved traveling to the mountains and going fishing; playing solitaire and sitting back watching her TV shows, NCIS, Heartland and Yellowstone.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roil Hadley; husband, Ronnie Weaver; five brothers, Donnie Hadley, Steve Hadley, Melton Hadley, Leo Hadley and Thomas Earl Hadley.
Mrs. Weaver is survived by her mother, Mazie Joiner of Perdido, Ala.; fiancé, Steve Jackson of Crossroads, Ala.; two sons, Ronnie Weaver and Joseph Weaver, both of Crossroads; one daughter, Liz Weaver of Crossroads; four brothers, Lamar (Bernice) Hadley of Perdido, Tony (Syretha) Hadley of Mize, Miss., Mack Hadley of Rabun, Ala. and Gilbert Hadley of McCullough, Ala.; four sisters, Darlene (Wendell) Stewart and Tammy Stewart, all of Bay Minette, Ala., Daisy (Kenneth) Koenig, of Brewton, Ala. and Imogene Boyington of Atmore; two grandchildren, Joseph Weaver and Ryleigh Weaver; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Fretwell Tabernacle Church with Sister, Helen Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Crossroads Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday, April 5, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.
Pallbearers were Steven Gerbige, Jonathan Weaver, Cecil Weaver, W M Stewart, Norman Hadley and Shane Coleman.
Honorary pallbearers were David Weaver and Patrick Weaver.

William “Billy” Etheridge

William “Billy” Etheridge, age 60, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024. He was born in Walnut Hill to Jesse and Gladys Thompson Etheridge. He was a construction worker and attended Lottie New Home Church.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Etheridge.

Mr. Etheridge is survived by his mother, Gladys Thompson Etheridge; his siblings, Virginia Meek of Long Key, Fla., Elizabeth Julia Norwood of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Etheridge and Jennie Etheridge Taylor, both of Repton, Ala. along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.

Graveside funeral services were held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Lottie New Home Cemetery in Lottie with Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Interment followed in Lottie New Home Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, April 5, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, Ala.

Lisa Lee Peacock

Mrs. Lisa Lee Peacock, age 59, of Silverhill, Ala. passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024.  She was born in Atmore, Ala. to Malcolm C. “Sam” and Margaret McCullough Lee. She was a 1982 graduate of Escambia County High School and a member of 3Circle Church. She also was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Peacock is survived by her husband, Mark Peacock; her children, Tanner (Jordan) Norman and Michaela (Roderick) Farrington, all of Loxley, Ala. and Colby Norman of Jacksonville, Fla.; her brothers, Malcolm “Sammy” Lee, Jr. (Wendy Classen) and Scott (Donna) Lee, both of Atmore, AL; her sister, Teresa (Jim) Mauldin of Mobile, Ala.; her grandchildren, Tenley Norman, Graham Norman, Macy Gray Norman, Roderick Farrington, Jr., Briar Farrington, Christian Farrington, Ezekiel Farrington and Arabella Dearborn along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Atmore Baptist Temple with Rev. Doug Odom officiating.  Interment followed  in McCullough Cemetery in McCullough, Ala.

Active pallbearers were Austin Lee, Nicholas Mills, Jacob Lee, Kyle McGhee, Blaize Thomas and Parker Byrd.

Honorary pallbearers were Lane Singleton, Jeff Lee, Larry Gross, Tyler Moser, J.D. Lee, Jace Lee and Jaxson Lee.

The family received friends Monday, April 8, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Atmore Baptist Temple.

Willow Jean Spikes 

Spikes

Reverend Willow Jean Spikes, age 97, of Hartford, Ala., passed away Friday, April 5, 2024. She was born in Geneva County, Ala. to the late Thomas and Eula Bell McDonald Spikes. A pioneer female reverend, Reverend Spikes answered her calling to enter the ministry 77 years ago. She grew up as a United Methodist in Hartford, AL and began her ministry in the Congregational Methodist Denomination, later joining the United Methodist Denomination. She was the first female inducted into the Alabama-West Florida Methodist Conference, paving the way for many women after her. In addition to Reverend Spikes’ pastoral roles, she served as a traveling evangelist and missionary to the Oriental Missionary Society spreading the gospel throughout Asia. After serving numerous churches in the Mobile area, Jean returned to her home in Hartford in 2015 and continued to serve at the Hartford Methodist Church while enjoying her later years with her sister.  Reverend Spikes’ love for her Lord and gift of evangelism was evident to all she ministered to. She left a legacy for generations to come and had an unmeasurable impact on countless souls throughout her life.  

She was preceded in death by her parents;  her brothers, Theo Pate, Joe Spikes and  Jack Spikes; sister, Opal Spikes and nephews, Donny Spikes and Glenn Wilkerson. 

Rev. Spikes is survived by her nephews, Joe Paul (Barbara) Spikes, Harold (Sue) Pate; niece, Terri Wilkerson; great-nephew, Tony (Sherri) Wilkerson ; great-niece, Brittney Wilkerson (Devon); great-great- nephews: Kalub and Ethyn Wilkerson; one great-great-niece on the way in July; special caregivers and friends, Barbara Hughes, Alex and Barbara Copeland and Glenda Smith;  her beloved church family; and other family and friends.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 3 p.m. in the Hartford Methodist Church with Rev. Dric Williford, Rev. Bill Messer and Rev. Jim Reece officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be David Rousseau, Rob Byrd, Tony Wilkerson, Eddie Showers, Alex Copeland and George Smith.

Evelyn Golson Turberville

Turberville

Mrs.Evelyn Golson Turberville, age 102, of Auburn, Ala. passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024. She was born in Conecuh County, Ala. to Benjamin and Annie Lou Williams Golson.  She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Atmore, Ala.  She taught in Conecuh County and Atmore for more than 30 years and spent thousands of hours as a volunteer for Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary.  Her favorite past times were spent with family, playing dominos, bingo, jigsaw, crossword puzzles and watching the Atlanta Braves.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton Bruce Turberville and her brothers, Reginald Golson, Wilbur Golson, Solomon Golson, Elmer Golson, Otis Golson and Talmadge Golson.

Mrs. Turberville is survived by her son, Bruce (Cindy) Turberville; her daughter, Alice (Robert) Crittenden; her grandchildren, Scott (Mary) Turberville and Ben (Stacie) Turberville; her great-grandchildren, Gibbs, Davis and Claire along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kevin Garrett officiating.  A private family graveside service will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
