2024 priorities

Congressman Jerry Carl

The House returns to Washington next week to begin the second session of the 118th Congress. My top priority this year is to take the fight to President Biden and fix the damage he’s done to this country. We must secure our southern border, protect life, and rein in reckless government spending.
Last year, the House passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which is the toughest border bill the House has ever passed. This legislation continues the construction of the wall and gives our Border Patrol agents the tools they need to keep us safe. We also secured $2.1 billion in the Fiscal Year 2024 Homeland Security Appropriations bill to finish that wall and allocated $496 million for a record-breaking 22,000 new Border Patrol agents. I’ve even stood strong in cosponsoring resolutions to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas and to halt the spread of deadly fentanyl into our communities with the HALT Fentanyl Act.
We have also held the Biden administration accountable on numerous occasions this past year. I’ve personally cosponsored a resolution urging the immediate resignation of President Biden, and I voted to redirect $312 million from climate change activities to reinforce our border security efforts. Additionally, I voted against funding for Biden’s proposed 85,000 new IRS agents, and I’ve consistently voted to cut wasteful spending through Appropriations bills, redirecting funds to prioritize national defense and eliminating dozens of useless government programs. It’s my duty to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used wisely and effectively for the benefit of the American people.
The Republican-controlled House will continue our work this year, and now we just need the Democrats in the Senate to step up and do their part in securing our border, reining in government spending, and holding the Biden administration accountable.
With every day that passes, it becomes clearer that the American people cannot afford the crippling effects of Bidenomics or the Biden Border Crisis. Thankfully, Americans will have an opportunity this November to make their voices heard and hold President Biden accountable for his failed policies that are driving America into the ground.
