Georgia Ann Dortch

Ms. Georgia Ann Dortch, age 65, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, August 14, 2023. She was born to Will and Bessie May Dortch in Camden, Ala. She moved to Atmore at age thirteen and remained in Atmore her entire life. During her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching soap opera.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Will Dortch, Jr., Willie Dortch and Clinton Dortch; brothers-in-law, Claude Stallworth, Robert Phillips and uncle, Paul Johnson.

Ms. Dortch is survived by her son, Rodrico D. Dortch; two daughters, Yteria

R. Dortch and Keondra M. Dortch; sisters, Linda Dortch Stallworth,

Geraldine Phillips, Ella (Evangelist Cal) Abner, Rosetta Dortch and Ernestine

(Ernest) Atkinson; aunt, Rosie Lee Johnson; grandchildren, Jermeria Scott,

Cameron Ball, Tykeria Lambert; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Holy Community Center with Rev. James F. Murphy, Eulogy and Pastor Irma J. Wilson, Host Pastor. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Jimmy Eugene Jay

Mr. Jimmy Eugene Jay, age 82, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023. He was born in Poarch, Ala. to Henison Jay and Lindy Rolin Jay. He served 43 years as Lieutenant with the Atmore Police Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughters, Linda Johnson and Charlene Pugh and his grandchildren, Patrick Jay and Jeremy Jay.

Mr. Jay is survived by his wife, Cynthia McCall Jay; his children, Randy (Joyce) Jay, Ronnie (Martha) Jay, Roger Jay, Robin (Stephanie) Jay, Sharon (Todd) Stern, and Jeffrey (Meg) Diedtrich; son-in-law, Larry Pugh; step-children, Jonathan McCurdy, Christopher McCurdy and Michael McCurdy; his grandchildren, Anna, Michael, Alex, Steven, Jonathan, Josh, Jennifer, Cindy, Michelle, Amy, Lisa, Christopher, Timothy, Harlee, Riley, Jace, Ashley, Chase, Spencer, JT, Leigh Margaret, Owen, Matthew, Larry, Jr., Nicholas, Austin, and Amber; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his caregivers, James Williams and Sarah Marshall; his fellow police officers.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

Active pallbearers will be his Fellow Law Enforcement Officers.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Thomas Earl Hadley

Mr. Thomas Earl Hadley, age 69, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in Loxley, Ala. He was born in Rabun, Ala. and has resided most of his life in Loxley. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sitting down to watch a good western.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Durant (Nettie Roberts) Hadley; wife, Dottie White; four brothers, Elick Hadley, Marvin Hadley, Elsby Hadley, Charlie Hadley; four sisters, Mary Lou Pimperl, Omarie Banks, Emogene Joiner and Bertha Mae Parnell.

Mr. Hadley is survived by his one son, William Earl Hadley of Elsanor, Ala.; three daughters, Shirley Hadley of Elsanor, Tosha Greenwood of Atmore, Ala., Stacy (Travis) Bailey of Loxley, Ala.; three sisters, Edna Mae Spann of Molino, Fla., Lillie Church of Atmore, Sarah Jackson of Bay Minette, Ala.; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; significant other and caretaker, Lou Hadley; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 11a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery.

Larry Dwayne Gunn

Mr. Larry Dwayne Gunn, age 73, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed going hunting and watching hunting shows on TV. He always planted a vegetable garden every year, so he could share with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. (Dora Belle McClain) Gunn and one sister, Ann Gunn.
Mr. Gunn is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Charlotte Gunn of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two sons, Cory (Monica) Gunn of Lynn, Ala. and Brian (Amy) Gunn of Winchester, Tenn.; one daughter, Lindsey (Heath) Tate of Robinsonville, Ala.; one brother, Ramon Gunn of Pensacola; one sister, Jean (John) Payne of Bratt, Fla.; six grandchildren, Marlana, Jared, Magen, Kameron, Taylor, Riley; numerous great-grandchildren; his blue tick hound dog, Lucy; other relatives and friends.

Shirley Jean Tew

Mrs. Shirley Jean Tew, age 86, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in Chatom, Ala. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewton, Ala. She worked in banking and insurance, with many years of service. She loved her grandchildren. She was avid in bible study and Sunday school teacher, and loved singing in the choir. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers, going shopping and watching TV preaching with Dr. David Jeremiah and Hallmark movies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Harrison (Myriam Elizabeth Bryan) White and one brother, Rev. Douglas White.

Mrs. Tew is survived by her husband since 1962, Delmer Tew of Chatom, Ala,; one daughter, Karen (Billy) Waites of Axis, Ala.; five grandchildren, Dalton Evans, Elizabeth Evans, Chase Waites, Hunter Waites and Drake Waites; two great-grandchildren, Amelia Evans, Arya Waites, and other relatives.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Holly Morales officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until service time 10:45 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Smith Barlow

Mrs. Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Smith Barlow, age 81, of Shepherd, Texas, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2023. She was born to Arvin and Annie Smith. Her unwavering love for family was evident in every facet of her life. She showered her grandchildren with affection and created countless treasured memories. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were touched by her love and compassion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sharon Barlow; her brothers, Clifton Smith, Rex Smith, Billy Joe Smith, W.A. Smith, Jimmy Smith and Otis Wayne Smith; her sisters, Dorothy Shavers, Katherine Comalander and Wanda Lavia.

Mrs. Barlow is survived by her beloved husband, Walter “Tobe” Barlow, Jr.; her son, Walter ‘Trey” (Tracy) Barlow III; grandchildren, Brandon Barlow, Bradley Barlow, Shelby Barlow, Ashley Barley and Kaylee Barlow; great-grandchildren, Jacob Winstead, Kady Barlow, Maverick Barlow, Bryghton Henderson and Kiley Henderson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel in Cleveland, Texas with Bro. Larry Allbritton officiating. Interment followed at Farley Chapel in Shepherd, Texas.

William “Larry” Brown 

Brown

Mr. William “Larry” Brown, age 89, of Mobile, Ala., passed away Friday, September 1, 2023. He was born in Bailey, Miss. to William Franklin Brown and Mary Ellen White Brown. He lived in Frisco City, Ala. most of his adult life. He worked for Southern Pine Electric Coop for forty years. In 2019, he relocated to Mobile, Ala. He was an active member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship in Mobile. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jonathan Brown. 

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Shirley Steadham Brown; his sons, Scott (Gracia) Brown of Cumming, Ga. and Jeff (Cheryl) Brown of Navarre, Fla.; his daughters, Felicia (Austin) Bosarge of Petaluma, Calif. and Faith (Roger “Chip”) Roberts of McKinney, Texas; his siblings, Florette White of Meridian, Miss. and Jerry (Judy) Brown of Dothan, Ala.; his grandchildren, Daniel Brown, Dawson Brown, Jesse Brown, Jenna Everette, Jadon Bosarge, Murphy Roberts, Jaret Bosarge and Hannah-Riley Roberts;  at the time of his death, “Pop” had ten great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10 a.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m.  Both will be held at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark McCullough officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Daniel Brown, Dawson Brown, Jadon Bosarge, Jaret Bosarge, Murphy Roberts, and Steven Brewer. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Coleman, Vic Sawyer, Robert Brooks, Larry Norris, Bush Thames, and Johnny Jordan.

Helen Boone Ward

Mrs. Helen Boone Ward, age 100, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023. She   was born to William and Leah Boone in Dyas, Ala. Her 100 years were filled with faith, family and love. She was a lifetime member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church. She was a retired Library Clerk with Ernest Ward High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Marshall Ward; her son, James “Jim” Ward; her parents; her brothers, Daniel and Rhondal Boone; her nephew, William “Billy” Boone and her son-in-law, Richard O’Quin.  

Mrs. Ward is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Ward Bridges (Ted) and Mary Helen Ward O’Quin; her daughter-in-law, Martha Ward and by her eight grandchildren, Rev. Ted Bridges (Somer), Jason Ward, Marshall Ward Bridges, Leah Bridges Taylor (Seth), Shane Bartczah (Adam), Kelly Wicker (Jim), Grant Williams, Wayne Williams (Sherri) and nine great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Walnut Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Ted Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bret Ward, Horace Ward, Scott Ward, Heath Ward, Russ Ward and Roy Glenn Ward.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Poulson, Tim Gibbs, Wesley Foster, Harry Ward and Lloyd Driver.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at Walnut Hill Baptist Church.

Betty Joyce Northrop Ash

Mrs. Betty Joyce Northrop Ash, age 91, of Uriah, Ala., passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023. She was born in Eliska, Ala. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Ash and Jack Young; her parents, Daniel Lee Northrop and Gertrude Elizabeth Purvis Northrop.

Mrs. Ash is survived by her sons, Woody (Janice) Ash of Eliska and Alan (Dale) Ash of Atmore, Ala; her daughter, Beth Petrie of Cantonment, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Sharon, James, Ashley, Jon, Jeff, Matt, Wade Alan; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Eliska.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Patrick Herrington officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
