Special to Atmore News

This girls’ softball travel team that calls themselves The Chosen hit it out of the park on Saturday, August 19. The group consists of local girls from Atmore, Northwest Florida, and surrounding areas. They have dedicated their season to a player’s mother who is battling breast cancer. All season long you could spot them with their hot pink socks and ribbons dominating the softball fields.
Once they learned that Relay For Life Atmore was looking for fundraising teams and events they didn’t hesitate to get something created. They partnered with the USFA Southeast and Arrowhead Sports Complex to create The Battle of the Bats to battle cancer. Nineteen teams and over 300 spectators endured the heat and came out to support a great cause. This tournament was even more special because not only did it bring a community together, but it was also the first Relay fundraising event Atmore has seen in roughly 11 years!
The Chosen not only took home the 10U championship, but they also presented a check to Relay For Life Atmore with fundraising funds totaling over $3,000.
Coaches are John Heathcock, Doug Sherrill, and Jon Godwin.
The players are, in alphabetical order by first name, Addison Godwin, Aspyn Cox, Avrey Smith, Deliah Fantroy, Heaven Pierce, Henlie Macht, Navaeh Pierce, Riverly Heathcock, Taylor Helton, Whitnie Dees.
