Roger Dale Emmons

Mr. Roger Dale Emmons, age 62, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at his home in Century, Fla. He was a lifelong resident of Century and was employed with Georgia Pacific for many years. He was an avid racing fanatic, dirt track, Nascar, and many others. He was a Flomaton Speedway champion with multiple wins. He always had a very good sense of humor and enjoyed a good get together. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and working on numerous projects building stuff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Bernard (Edna Virginia Norris) Emmons.
Mr. Emmons is survived by his one son, Michael Emmons of Molino, Fla.; two daughters, Janice (Blake) DeLuca of Flomaton, Ala., Theresa Gill of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, Carl (Terry) Emmons, of Bratt, Fla.; one sister, Charlotte (Dennis) Ard of Enterprise, Ala.; two grandchildren, Blake Anthony DeLuca, Jr. and Elise Marie Gill; and other relatives.     

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. at Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Mitchell, George Thompson, Mike Childress, Ray Owens, Keith Moore, and Fed Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Blair, Sam Turner and Craig Turner.

Rosie Mae Harrison

Mrs. Rosie Mae Harrison, age 98, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 at her home. She was born in Hybart, Ala. July 11, 1924 to Callie McCants and Will Lee. She was a longtime resident of Atmore. She was a longtime member of the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church serving faithfully in the choir and as a Sunday school teacher. She loved singing, fishing, and cooking. She was employed with the family of the late Oris E. and Mary Davis and their children in their home.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, J. B. Payne and Franklin Harrison; one daughter, Lizzie; two sisters, Minnie and Ethel; six brothers, Joseph, Adam, Johnnie, John, Herbert, and Johnny; two grandchildren, LaGuanda Benjamin and Christopher Andrews; one great-grandchild, LaGuanda Shanette.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by two sons, Herbert (Charetta) Payne and Jeremiah Payne; one daughter, Eartha Andrews; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor, officiating. Retirement of her remains was in Stallworth Cemetery.

Gayle Patricia Cargill Fountain

Mrs. Gayle Patricia Cargill Fountain, age 82, of East Brewton, Ala. passed away Monday, February 27, 2023. She was born in Castleberry, Ala. Hugh and Gayle met during Gayle’s senior year of high school. After marriage and four children went back to school to become a teacher, attending Jefferson Davis Junior College and the University of West Florida, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. After having her fifth child, she began her teaching career at A.C. Moore Elementary School, then W.S. Neal Elementary School and eventually earned her Master’s and Educational Specialist Degrees from Livingston University and took Administration courses through Auburn University at Montgomery. She began as principal of W.S. Neal Middle School in 1995 and continued until she retired in 2005. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church living a life of service and devotion to others. Her life was a testimony to her faith in Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Eloise Cargill.

Mrs. Fountain will be survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Hugh; her five children and their spouses, Kim and Brian Smith, Kay and Bill Herrington, Hugh and Susan Fountain, Scott and Rosie Fountain, and Jason and Aimie Fountain; her fourteen grandchildren, Natalie (Ryan) Pitts, Kate Williamson, Taylor (Victoria) Smith, Dodson (Leah) Herrington, Brookes Fountain, Will (Anna) Smith, Hannah (Brett) Helton, H.T. (Abby) Fountain, Hunter Fountain, Troy Fountain, Tanner Fountain, Skyler Fountain, Ainsley Fountain and Jase Fountain; her nine great-grandchildren: Fountain Pitts, James Williamson, Willie T. Pitts, Loggins Williamson, Krew Herrington, Ada James Smith, Findley Pitts, Locklier Helton and Reese Herrington and her sister, Judi (Phil) Byrd.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Brewton. Burial will follow at Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, Ala.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 4, 2023 from Noon until service time at 2 p.m.

Cody Weston Rounsavall

Master Cody Weston Rounsavall, age 2, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. He always enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors. He liked to do whatever “Big Brother” was doing, and he loved his Pawpaw.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Leon (Betty) Tolin; great-paternal- grandmother, Regina Rounsavall; two great-uncles, Ricky Tolin and Tony Scott; one great-aunt, Diane Chapman and a special friend, Josie Jones.

Master Cody is survived by his parents, Shawn and Kelly Rounsavall of Atmore; maternal grandparents, Tim (Sonja) White of Atmore; maternal grandfather, Rodger Cravens of Boise, Idaho; paternal grandparents, Nolan (Jerrie ’Sue) Kerr of Silsbee, Texas; three half-brothers, Hunter Ford of Atmore, Chaz Rounsavall of Gulf Shores, Ala. and Aiden Rounsavall of Semmes, Ala.; one half-sister, Berkley Rounsavall of Semmes and other relatives.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Atmore with Dr. Kevin Garrett officiating.

Nelson “Bubba” Kenneth Martin

Mr. Nelson “Bubba” Kenneth Martin, age 61, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at his home in Poarch, Ala. He was born to Otha and Doris (McGhee) Martin. He was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He attended Escambia County High School where he played football. He began his work career shortly after high school but his career ended quickly after a work related injury. He did not let this injury hinder him from living life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his grandkids, nieces and nephews; playing solitaire on the computer, fishing with his boys, watching Alabama football, and playing the lotto.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Otha and Doris Martin and his brother, Paul Martin.
Mr. Martin is survived by two sons, Joshua (Brittany) Martin of Atmore and Nelson Bradley

(Brittany) Martin of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughter, Magan (Justin) Taylor of Waxahachie, Texas, Hollie (Brandon) Towe of Tuscaloosa; two brothers, Otha Lamar (Charlotte) Martin of Pensacola, Fla. and James Nathan (Susan) Martin of Atmore ; sister, Pauline (Lamar) of Atmore; ten grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special aunts and uncles; special care takers, Mary Poindexter and Robin Godwin.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Josh long, Coach Melvin Middleton and Pastor Cornelius Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Crystal Darlene Jackson

Mrs. Crystal Darlene Jackson, age 45, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023, in Atmore, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore, AL. She was a member of Friendly Holiness Church.  She loved spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ruby Hadley and paternal grandmother, Leona Ramer.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by her father, Arthur (Shelia) Ramer of Atmore; mother, Susan Barlow of Brewton, Ala.; husband of five years, Larry Jackson of Atmore; one son, Cody Commalander of McDavid, Fla.; three daughters, Cortney Commalander of Daphne, Ala., Shelby Commalander of Atmore and Amber Commalander (Bryant) Addison of McDavid, Fla.; two brothers, Larry (Jennifer) Ramer  and Jamie (Debra) Ramer, both of Atmore; two sisters, Regina (Rob) Williams of Pensacola, Fla. and Angila Ramer of Atmore; sixteen grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Ray Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Little Rock Cemetery.

Susan Evelyn Bradberry

Mrs. Susan Evelyn Bradberry, age 71, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023. She was born in Marianna, Fla. to the late Crawford Crews and Evelyn Byrd Scott. During her career, she worked with Harvester’s Federal Credit Union and later retired from Atmore Community Hospital. She was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church and Walnut Hill Baptist Church Crafty Ladies. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and quilting. She was her family’s greatest supporter especially her grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Mrs. Bradberry is survived by her husband of fifty years, Harvey Bradberry of Walnut Hill; her children, Shawn (Leanne) Bradberry of Jay, Fla and Kristy (Johnny) Pugh of Walnut Hill; her brothers, Randy (Sandra) Scott of Atlanta, Ga. and Steven (Sheila) Scott of Biloxi, Miss.; her sister, Sherry Byrd of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Zack, Jarett, Mason, Riley, Bailey, Colbey, Kaitlyn, Brianna and Cody along with several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Walnut Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joy Dot Turner

Mrs. Joy Dot Turner, age 89, of Bay Minette, Ala., passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023 in Atmore, Ala.  She was born in Dade City, Fla. to Andrew Jackson Brown and Katie South Brown Wade.  She was an assistant manager with Woolworth Department Store for over forty years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William C. Turner. 

Mrs. Turner is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at Wilson Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Ala. with Rev. Thomas Birka officiating.  Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Donna Stewart

Mrs. Donna Stewart, age 91, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 in Mobile, Ala.  She was born in Bedford County, Va. to John and Adrienne Shank Dooley. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She devoted her life to God and her husband until God called her home. She was an International Pentecostal Holiness Church First Lady.

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her husband of seventy years, Leon Stewart of Atmore; her daughters, Dianne Stewart of San Antonio, Texas and Denise Stewart of Daphne, Ala.; her granddaughters, Karen Long of Tipton, Ga. and Lara Stewart of San Antonio; and her great-grandchildren, Ben Hendrickson, Eli Hendrickson and Ash Hendrickson. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Doug Beacham officiating.

Danny Mims

Mr. Danny Mims, age 68, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was born in Lee County, Ala. to Eib Mims and Nettie Emery Jones. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a night watchman with Swift Lumber Company. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Atmore. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters. 

Mr. Mims is survived by his sons, Daniel (Jill) Mims of Tyler, Texas and James Mims of Canoe, Ala.; his brothers, Robert (Charlotte) Mims of Westover, Ala. and Martis (Wanda) Mims of Jemison, Ala.; his sister, Clara (Danny) Moore of Carbon Hill, Ala. and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens in Atmore.

Helen Armstrong, age 95, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Atmore Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the 7th Day Adventist Church.

Minnie Bell Ellis

Mrs. Minnie Bell Ellis, age 78, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at her home. She was born to James Clarence and Clemmie Lindsey in Atmore, Ala. (Escambia County). She was a member of New Order Missionary Baptist Church. She was a proud graduate of Pensacola High School and then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in social work from Troy State University, Troy Ala. She was employed with Community Actions of Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tommy Lee Ellis.

Mrs. Ellis is survived by three children, Charlotte Renae (Frank) Holly of Milton, Fla., Vernon “Pete” (Terry) Gamble, III of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and Loumeek (Keiana Quarker) White of Atmore; six siblings, Belinda (Bill) Reynolds of Augustus, Ga., Carolyn (Mack) Salter of Atmore, Jackie Watson of Daphne, Ala., Fannie (Ernest) Marvin of Pensacola, Fla., Eddie (Shelly) Lindsey of Montgomery, Ala. and Dinah (Melvin) Fitzpatrick of Niceville, Ala.; one God-daughter, Lashanda (Shelton) Forney of Atmore; twelve grandchildren, Brent (Tangerine) Alessandria, Cortnie, Angelica, “Too”Too”, Kima, Kyra, Kristian, Kayliah, Bianca, Trinity and Hope; six great-grandchildren; three caretakers, Vera Brooks, Wanda Riley and Demetra White; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. at New Order Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Grant, Jr., Pastor and Rev. Alfonza Williams, Eulogist. Bernard L. Bryant, Presider. Interment followed in Pierce, Rabb, Montgomery Cemetery.

Belinda Ann Shoemake

Belinda Ann Shoemake, age 66, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, February 17, 2023. She was born to Claude McCants and Tiny Ruth Nolen in Atmore. She was a proud 1975 graduate of Escambia County High School. She was a member of Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Roberta Shoemake; mother; son, Llewelyn Shoemake; aunts, Doris Wallace, Annie Ruth McCants, Rose McCants and Ethel Bradley; uncles, Climmie Blackmon, Henry Shoemake, Curtis Shoemake, Williams McCants and Walter Lee McCants.

Ms. Shoemake is survived by her father, Claude McCants of Pensacola, Fla.; two aunts, Vera Shoemake and Celestine Leslie, both of Atmore; one uncle, Jimmie McCants of Pensacola, Fla.; devoted friend, Claude Dread of Atmore and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Perry McCullum officiating. Burial was held in Stallworth Cemetery.

Monroe White, Sr.

White

Monroe White, Sr., of Mobile, Ala. passed away recently. He was born to Isaac and Icephine White in Thomasville, Ala. He became a crane operator for Scott Paper Company in Plateau- Africatown (and retired after 35 years of employment). Affectionately known as the “Mighty Roe,” he planted roots, started a family, and was recognized as a local entrepreneur. “Money-Roe” owned and managed a mechanic shop, a billiard hall, a wrecker service, a gas station, and a power washing company. Skilled at making “a dollar out of fifteen cents,” he was also a disc jockey, but notably, the Ice Cream business would be the primary supplement to support his family. In 1978 Roe’s Sno Cone served communities near and afar, and Roe’s Ice Cream was operable until his health began to fail in 2021.  

Brother White was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Elijah White. In 1986 he became a proud “Libertonian” (on Ann Street) and worshipped under the pastorship of Rev. Dr. Clyde Maye, Jr., of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon and served faithfully singing songs of praise with the Liberty Male Chorus. Deacon Roe was an integral component in coordinating their Annual Choir Day for several years and also sang with the Washington County Male Chorus.    

He was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; his grandsons, Yarnell Muttilib and Tyvonte Johnson; daughter, Vanessa White Hayes.

Deacon Monroe White, Sr. is survived by is devoted wife of sixty years, Carolyn Jenkins White; Six children, Sharon Pickett of Mobile, Monroe (Gwendolyn) White, Jr., of Houston, Texas, Varion (Levi) Eaton, Gabriel Johnson, James Rembert, and Kim White (Bert) Powell all of Mobile; two devoted adopted children, Tylando White and JaCaila White, both of Mobile; three devoted grandchildren, Ukecia White, LaBrandi (Billy) McFadden, Anthony (Christa) Crawford, of Mobile; twelve grandchildren, Ashaunte (Adam) Bailey, James L. Harris, II, LaKindra Williams, LaKizzy White, Carlos Kim, and Shantel Rembert, Treyon Crawford of Huntsville, Africa Muttilib, Khadija (Paul) Charleston, and Asia Sanders, James Rembert, Jr., and ShaMichael Rembert; thirty-three great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Williams of Mobile;  and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, Mobile, Ala. with Rev. Clyde Maye, Jr., Pastor and Eulogist. Interment will follow in

Whispering Pines Cemetery, Whistler, Ala.
