The Reverend Charles Johnson was installed as pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, August 28. Fellow pastors, friends, relatives, and church members gathered for the occasion in which Pastor Johnson was charged with the care of his flock.
Elder Willie Williams served as master of ceremony. The message was brought by the Rev. Danny Benjamin, Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, Nichburg, Ala. His Scripture was Isaiah 6:1-8. His topic was “Chosen to Serve.”
Taking part in the service were the following: Selections by the Mt. Olive Choir and the Visiting Choir from Bethesda MBC; Welcome by Sister Barbara Poole Harris; Prayer by Pastor Freddie Banks; Solo and Introduction of the Speaker by Rev. Willie Hawthorne; Charge to the Pastor by the Rev. Harold Askew; Charge to the Church by the Rev. Jimmy Samuel; As a Pastor by Bro. Willie Johnson.
A most touching time was held near the end of the service when Rev. Benjamin had Pastor and Mrs. Johnson seated with ministers and their wives laying hands on them in prayer.
In his closing comments, Pastor Johnson said, “A charge to keep I have.”
At the end of the service, the church’s food committee – Chairperson Lisa Wilson, Annie Augusta, and Bessie Johnson – served everyone a to-go dinner.
Betty Boggan is Mt. Olive’s clerk. And as of Sunday, Charles Johnson is officially Mt. Olive’s pastor.
