An Atmore man was arrested August 16 on several charges, including five felony warrants for stalking his ex-girlfriend, after he twice returned to a property from which he had been legally banned.
Police reports show that officers were sent to a 5th Avenue residence around 11 p.m. after the woman reported the presence of her former boyfriend, against whom she has a protection order. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Richard McKenzie, had left the property when police arrived, but the victim’s surveillance system showed that he had been on her property.
Officers left the residence but remained in the area due to McKenzie’s constant harassment of the victim. When he returned around 12:30 a.m., officers came back, too. They observed McKenzie’s vehicle in the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but McKenzie refused to pull over.
Police followed him to his residence and placed him under arrest on the stalking warrants (Class C felonies). He was also charged with one count each of violation of a protection order, attempting to elude police, third-degree criminal trespass and reckless driving. He was also issued three other traffic citations.
