Escaped killer back in custody

Jeffery Strugg, convicted of a 2009 murder in Mobile County, is back behind bars after enjoying about 18 hours of freedom.

Alabama Department of Corrections officials announced shortly after noon today (Monday, May 16) that Strugg, who escaped from the minimum-custody Mobile Community Based Facility in Prichard around 5:25 p.m. Sunday, was recaptured around 11:25 a.m. today, in Mobile, by ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division, who used a K9 team top track him.

ADOC officials said Strugg surrendered without incident when he was cornered.

He had been serving a 30-year sentence for the murder conviction.
