Former EA coach will take over W.S. Neal program

Fountain

Former Escambia Academy head football coach and athletic director Hugh Fountain was named today as the new head football coach and athletic director at W.S. Neal High in Brewton.

Fountain’s hiring was announced at a special meeting of the Escambia County Board of Education, held this morning (Monday, June 13) at the school system’s central office in Brewton.

Officials of Pike Liberal Arts School in Troy announced two weeks ago that Fountain had signed a five-year contract to take the PLA program into Alabama High School Athletic Association competition. The parochial school had been a member of Alabama Independent School Association since shortly after its founding.

The former EA coach, who headed up the Neal program for seven years during the earliest stages of his career, notified PLA officials less than a week after signing the five-year pact that he would not be able to honor the commitment.
