The Atmore Lions Club met June 1, in the Mayson Auditorium at Atmore Community Hospital. In the absence of the president and first vice president, second vice president Kevin Garrett presided, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and gave the devotion.
Following a fish lunch, Lion Patty Davis presented Lion Kerra Mascaro as the speaker. Mascaro told members about her business, The Coffee House, and explained why and how she began the business in Atmore. She told of her desire to be in a historic building and help with the reconstruction and redevelopment of downtown Atmore as well as offering the people of Atmore a place to gather and share something to drink. Appropriately, her building is the same one in which Atmore Coffee Company began business in 1934 and has a long history in the local coffee business.
Members were reminded about the spaghetti supper being held June 6 at David’s Catfish House, with profits going to Pilots for Christ.
