EA wins over Lighthouse Christian

Escambia Academy’s Bubba Nettles accounted for 2 touchdowns during EA’s,43-15 homecoming win over Lighthouse Christian Friday, October 15. With the victory over the Stingrays, EA advances to 7-1 on the season.
EA’s Landon Sims got things started for the Cougars with an 8-yard dash into the endzone and he also booted a successful extra-point kick, giving EA a 7-0 lead over Lighthouse with 8:31 left in the first quarter. Nettles added to the score with 5:11 left in the first when he reached the endzone from 5 yards out. After a successful 2-point conversion, EA held a 15-0 advantage.
During the second quarter, Sims connected with Brady Howell on a 7-yard strike and after a successful Sims extra-point kick, the Cougars led, 22-0. With 46 seconds left in the first half, EA’s Sims connected with Devin Kelly on a long pass, and after another Sims extra-point kick, the Cougars held a 29-0 lead at halftime.
Nettles picked up scoring for EA in the second half when he scored from 2 yards out and after a Sims boot, the Cougars extended the lead to 36-0. With 1 second left to play in the third, EA struck again with a punch into the endzone from 1 yard out and after Sims extra-point boot, the Cougars led, 43-0.
During the fourth quarter, Lighthouse attempted a comeback scoring 2 touchdowns. The first Stingrays score came from a 9-yard dash and after a successful point-after kick, Lighthouse trailed, 43-7, with 8:46 left to play. The second Stingrays score came from 4 yards out and a successful 2-point conversion.
With the win, EA still sits as number two in AISA standings as they get set to host Southern Academy in region action this Friday, October 22. Southern Academy enters the contest against the Cougars with a season record of 0-8.
