Car hits truck, ignites fire; Lottie residence destroyed

A former country store, converted some time ago to a residence, was destroyed by fire today (Thursday, Feb. 25) when a car hit a truck in front of the home, knocking it into the structure and starting the destructive blaze.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m.. when the car, of unknown make and model, veered off the road and started the chain reaction. The dwelling once operated as Lottie Grocery, but has since been converted to living quarters.

Two of the home’s occupants were reportedly underneath the carport when the car and truck came sliding across the yard. The structure is located at the intersection of 3 Mile Road and Jack Springs Road.

Alabama State Troopers had one person in custody at the scene. The suspect’s name and the charges against him were not immediately known.

Fire departments from Lottie, Rabun, Stockton and Bay Minette responded to the fire. No reports have been received of any injuries, but a medical evacuation helicopter was on the scene.
