Andrea Cumbie Boutwell  

Boutwell

Mrs. Andrea Cumbie Boutwell, age 49, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 at her home in Flomaton, Ala. She was a native of Fairhope, Ala. and had resided in Flomaton for most of her life. She was a retired school bus driver with the Escambia County Alabama School Board with twenty-one years of service and was on the Board of Trustees with Traveler’s Rest Cemetery. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Ila Faye Cumbie, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Boutwell is survived by her husband of nineteen years, Phillip D. Boutwell of Flomaton; one daughter, Shea LeAnn (Aaron) Beasley of Flomaton; and two grandchildren, Mason Keith Baxter and Zoey LeAnn-Faye Baxter, both of Flomaton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Haris officiating. Burial followed at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.

The family received friends Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Whitney Cross, Anthony Boutwell, Scott Boutwell, Jamie Boutwell, Dustin Boutwell and Richie Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers were Scotty Stewart and Wayne Sullivan.

Betty Jo Branum

Branum

Mrs. Betty Jo Branum, age 78, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021. She was born in Mobile, Ala. 

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Mrs. Branum is survived by her husband, Donald Branum; her daughters, Tifiney (Roger) Lavoie of Daphne, Ala., Beverly Locklin (Christopher) Townsend of Fla., and Wendy Locklin of Arizona; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her special companions, Moodles and Sadie.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. Austin Taylor officiating.

Ethan Joseph Good

Mr. Ethan Joseph Good, age 91, of Lewisburg, Penn., passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at home. He was born to Otto and Anna (Weaver) Good in Augusta Co., Va. He and his family relocated to Sarasota, Fla. where he worked as a Home Builder. Later the family moved to Mashulaville, Miss., to assist in mission work among the Choctaw People. Shortly after their arrival, their daughters, Rosa and Carol, joined the family. It was here where Ethan found his life work, serving others. He was loved by the Choctaw People as well as the community he moved in and was also sought after as a home builder. He often reminded his daughters, “A Good name is to be chosen rather than great riches.” Proverbs 22:1. He was ordained as Pastor at Nanih Waiya Indian Mennonite Church, where he served faithfully until 2014. At that time, Ethan and Shirley relocated to Lewisburg, Penn., to spend their later years with their daughter, Ardis and Lester Diller. Ethan was a member of the Buffalo Community Church, Lewisburg, where he enjoyed attending Sunday school class.

Mr. Good leaves behind, his wife Shirley, daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis (Dan) Miller, McComb, Miss., Ardis (Lester) Diller, Lewisburg, Penn., Rosa (Tim) Kanagy, Louisville, Miss., Carol (Mark) Roth, Jackson, Miss., and Jon Yoder and wife Heleen, Atmore, Ala., along with nineteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

He will be welcomed into his eternal rest by his parents, Otto and Anna Good; brothers, James (Miriam) and Pierce; sisters, Cathleen (David) Barnhart and Mildred (Ernie) Simpson; and daughter, Patricia Dawn Yoder.

Family and friends were welcomed from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the Buffalo Community Church, 4445 Hoffa Mill Rd., Lewisburg, where the funeral was conducted at 11, with Pastor Lester Diller, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A memorial service in Mississippi will be held March 14, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Choctaw Bible Translation Committee, PO Box 6274, Choctaw MS 39350.

Mary Yvonne Milstead Coon

Coon

Mrs. Mary Yvonne Milstead Coon, age 85, of Oak Grove, Fla., passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021. She was born in Oak Grove to the late Lawrence Hilton and Lillie Belle Ziglar Milstead. She was a retired operator from Monsanto Company. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. “Her canvas was her garden.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Peter Coon; her siblings, Frances Hanks, Helen Haddock and Howard Milstead.

Mrs. Coon is survived by her sons, William Kevin (Jannette) Coon and Lawrence Peter (Betty) Coon, all of Oak Grove; her daughters, Kathryn (Raymond “Eddie”) Roach of Bratt, Fla., Dr. Pamela (Robert “Bob”) Gibbs, Jr. of Monroeville, Ala., Susan (David) Underwood of Pensacola, Fla., and Zelda Berry of Oak Grove; her sister, JoAnn (James “Butch”) White of Oak Grove; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside service was held Monday, March 8, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brian Calhoun officiating.

Joyce Annette Smith

Mrs., Joyce Annette Smith, age 60, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 in Daphne, Ala.

She was born in Bay Minette, Ala. and had resided in Stapleton, Ala. for most of her life. She was a caregiver; her favorite hobbies were taking care of her children, painting, drawing, singing and fishing. She was a member of the Stapleton Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Wayne Smith; parents, Clarence and Mildred Phillips; brother, William Elliott “Billy” Phillips; and two sisters, Marell Thompson and Molley Phillips.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her three sons, Elvin (Michelle) Pruette and Micah Smith, all of Stapleton, and Milton Shane (Tammy) Smith of Pine Grove, Ala.; two daughters, Moriah Smith of Stapleton and Charlotte (Michael) Wright of Robertsdale, Ala.; three brothers, G.W. Phillips, Curtis Phillips and Wyatt (Rita) Phillips, all of Stapleton; four sisters, Elsie May Jones, Myra Stokes, Tempy Phillips, all of Stapleton, and Cindy (Wayne) Rider of Pine Grove, Ala.; fifteen grandchildren, Shadow, Blaze, Sprying, Kyle, Brett, Jeremy, Alyssa, Kaylee, Bryce, Amilia, Morgan, Jack, Railey, Leylani and Charlee; three great-grandchildren, Anna Rose, Liam and Dominic, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Stapleton Church of God with Bro. J.P. Lambeth officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday, March 8, 2021 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Stapleton Church of God.

Pallbearers were Dylon Tyree, Scott Byrd, Mike Jones, Bailey Seniter, Patrick Reynolds and Logan Little.

Larry Lamar Smallwood

Mr. Larry Lamar Smallwood, age 69, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Atmore, Ala.

He was a native and former resident of Macon, Ga. and had resided in Atmore for the past twelve years. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing and hunting. He was a mechanic and veteran of the Vietnam Conflict with the U.S. Army. He was of the Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lillian Smallwood, and siblings, Kathy Smallwood, Roland Smallwood, Wayne Smallwood, Melvin Smallwood and Jerry Smallwood.

Mr. Smallwood is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Connie Smallwood of Atmore; two sons, Junior Smallwood and David Smallwood, both of Atmore; three daughters, Tracie Hinton, Melaidy Weaver and Shannon (Jeffery) Norwood of Atmore, Ala.; one brother, Eddie Smallwood of Macon, Ga.; four sisters, Patricia Roland of Macon, Ga., Sheila Fuller of Macon, Ga., Frances Smith of Lava Hot Springs, Ind., and Sherry (Junior) Ashley of Macon, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Cameron (Jennifer) Hinton, Jacob Smallwood, Randall Weaver, Kaitlynn Weaver, Chloe Weaver, Reevise Weaver, Noah Norwood, Kinsley Norwood and Elijah Brooks; three great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Weaver, Kyler Weaver and Bentley Stewart; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  

Veronyka “Vicki” Godwin Jordan

Veronyka “Vicki” Godwin Jordan, age 80, from Century, Fla. passed away on March 4, 2021. She was born on January 9, 1941 in Century, Fla. to the late Burt Lewis and Edith Elizabeth Dunlap Godwin. She was a graduate of Century High School. She was a legal assistant for over twenty years for Judge Joseph B. Brogden.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, T.J. Jordan; her granddaughter, Leanne Jordan; and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by husband of 62 years, Thomas Calvin Jordan; two sons, Thomas A. (Lori) Jordan of Byrneville, Fla. and Dennis E. (Anniece “Doodle”) Jordan of Byrneville, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A private family interment was held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery in Flomaton, Ala.

David Edward, “Peter” Watford

Mr. David Edward, “Peter” Watford, age 77, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away in his home Thursday, February 25, 2021. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to Carl and Audrey Watford. He served in the Army from 1968-1971.  He later went on to graduate from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a civil engineer degree in 1982.  David worked as a Roads and Traffic Engineer for the City of Atlanta until he retired in 2009. He enjoyed traveling, reading and watching western movies, especially anything with John Wayne. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Donny Watford, Billy Watford and Kathy Gaffney.

Mr. Watford is survived by his wife, Gaile Watford; son, Taft Brown and wife Kristen and grandchildren, Ansley, Cooper, Perry Campbell and Reese; son, David Watford and wife Kristen and grandchildren, John David, Madison and Thatcher; daughter Missy Palcic and husband Jason and grandchild Gena. 

Burial of ashes will occur Friday, March 12, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Huxford Community of Christ, 926 Burlington Street, Huxford, AL 36502.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Manuel Hall, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 5, 2021 at his home.

Labe Earl Turner, Jr.

Mr. Labe Earl Turner, Jr., age 75, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Ala. He was born in Sparta, Ala. to the late Labe Earl Turner Sr. and Willie Mae Turner. Toward middle life he rededicated his life and joined The Church of the Living God Temple in Castleberry, Ala. He was a jack of all trades. He worked at Keego Brick Yard for twenty-two years; T.R. Miller Mill Co., Brewton, and CC Lead in Lake Placid, Fla. His passion in life was fishing.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Missouri “Miss” Lewis Turner, and grandfather, Will Turner; a son, Samuel Jenkins; siblings, Henry Lee Turner, Sr., Barbara Jean Turner, Jerriel Turner and Deloise Sheppard Pierre; grandchildren, Cornelius Powell, Lashonda Turner and Iesha Powell; and an uncle, Charlie Neal Turner.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Helen Jean Turner of Castleberry; sons, Scottie (Brenda) Turner, Kevin (Regina) Turner, Willie Earl (Jean) Grace and Jonathan Turner, all of Belleville, Ala., Eric (Vivian) Turner of Andalusia, Ala., Smitty Turner of Atlanta, Ga. and Adrian Turner of N.C.; daughters, Tonja Powell of Castleberry, Debra Turner and Jill (Alfred) Willis, both of Belleville, Ala., Janice (Tony) Jenkins of Huntsville, Ala., Lisa (Roger) Baker and Brenda (Kevin) Randall, both of Brewton, Ala., Felisa Powell and Shawnie Richmond, both of Detroit, Mi.; brothers, Willie (Juanita) Turner of  Castleberry and Chester Turner of Lake Placid, Fla.;

sisters, Christine Hale, Annette (Albert) Cooper and Juanita (Frank) Robinson of Lake Placid; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Second Marietta Church Cemetery with  Elder Larry Blackmon, Sr., officiating.

Honorary pallbearers and honorary flower bearers were grands and nephews and granddaughters and nieces.

Jacqueline D. Benjamin

Mrs. Jacqueline D. Benjamin, age 56, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021. She was born in Brewton, Ala. to Huston Etheridge and the late Shirley Johnson. She worked for Eckerd College more than fifteen years before retiring. She loved taking care of her family, cooking and hosting family gatherings,  quiet time, and she enjoyed fishing. She was a member of The Old Paths Apostolic Church Inc.

She was preceded in death by her mother; brother, Melvin Etheridge; and sister, Mary Glanton.

Mrs. Benjamin is survived by her husband, Robert L. Benjamin; children, Antetinous Benjamin, Robert Benjamin, Jr., Towana Benjamin, and Cora Benjamin; father, Huston Etheridge; brothers, Charles Stone (Antionette) and Randy  Barton; sisters, Yolanda Reese (Willie), Antwon Davis and Tamela Lovette (Donald); mother-in-law, Cora Lee Bailey; grandchildren, 30; great-grandchildren, 24; a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life was held Saturday, March 5, 2021 at Bergen Memorial Cemetery in Pine Grove Cemetery, Brewton, Ala., with Pastor Aubrey Washington, Jr., Eulogist.

Pallbearers were grandsons and flower attendants, granddaughters.

Jerry “Tink” Blackburn

Mr. Jerry “Tink” Blackburn, age 55, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Mobile, Ala. He was a native and former resident of Frostproff, Fla. and had resided in Atmore, Ala. for the past 55 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved his family get togethers. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, an employee of CI, as a maintenance worker, and he was an avid Alabama Football Fan. He was a member of the HVSSOSSV TVLAHASSEE Ceremonial Grounds.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Blackburn, and mother, Dora Blackburn.
Mr. Blackburn is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Janet Blackburn of Atmore; children, Joseph Fullerton, Julie (Jon) Rowland, and Phillip (Ashley) Fullerton, all of Atmore; Jennifer (John-boy) Stephens of Poarch, Ala.; father-in-law, Miles Franklin of Brewton, Ala.; stepmother, Shelia Blackburn of Poarch; two brothers, Chris “Ding Ding” Blackburn and Lionel Blackburn, both of Atmore; one sister, Shelley (Paco) Taylor of Birmingham, Ala,; thirteen grandchildren, Savannah, Caleb, Christian, Addison, Thomas, Tanner, Trinidy, Taya, Mileigh, Brayson, Gracie, Abbigail, and Braylee; and nephew, Jeremiah Taylor of Birmingham.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Ward and Bro. Trevor Daughtry officiating. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Ms. Geraldine “Bay Bay” Smith, age 69, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at Emory University Medical Center, Atlanta, Ga.

Randall Milton Jones

Mr. Randall Milton Jones, age 79, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at his home in Bay Minette, Ala. He was born in Greenville, Ala. and had resided in Pine Grove, Ala. for the past fifty-one years. He loved all children, Alabama football, growing tomatoes, gardening, and spending time with his brother Norman, and fishing with Lucille. He was retired from International Paper with thirty-two years of service as a Logistics Manager and he was owner and manager of Quality Hotshots. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Minnie Jones; and brother, Bobby Keith Jones.    

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Lucille Webb Jones of Pine Grove; one son, Bobby (Torie Lynn) Jones of Jay, Fla.; four daughters, Dedee Jones (Michael) Cash of Pace, Fla., Sandi Roley of Chickasaw, Ala., Kristie Jones (Michael) Blevins of Daphne, Ala., and Denise Bragg of Marlow, Ala.; one brother, Norman (Dorothy) Jones of Bay Minette, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Jared Cash, Heather Cash Newton, Lauren Olivia Payne, Krysta Harris, Braxton Bragg, Phalyn O’Dell, Sarah Sherif, Will Blevins and Royce William Jones; five great- grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Grant Dykes officiating. Burial followed at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family received friends Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Johnny Jones, Terry Goins, Darrell Suddeth, Russell Prossar, Brad Hickman and Larry Hayles.
