Curtis Arthur Smith

Smith

Mr. Curtis Arthur Smith, age 94, of Century, Fla., passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  He was born in Bluff Springs, Fla. to the late Zell Berry and Lillie Cooper Smith. He served in the United States Army during World War II and as the Constable of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for many years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna Luverne “Sis” Smith; his brothers, Jack Smith, Walter Smith, Winegair Smith, James Smith and Charles Smith. 

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Curtis Edward Smith of Byrneville, Fla; his sister, Susie Smith Bell of Byrneville; his grandchildren, Brandon (Deadria) Smith and Rachael Smith (David Spicer); his great-grandchildren, Julianna, Samantha, Dalton, Brayden, Weston and Lilah-May and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mitch Herring officiating. Interment followed at Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Cemetery in Byrneville. 

Active pallbearers were Gerald Bell, Brandon Smith, Jackie Brown, Charlie Brown, Bob Turk and David Smith. 

Honorary pallbearers were Brayden Smith, Dalton Smith and Lon Malone. 

The family received friends Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Terry Ann Conway

Mrs. Terry Ann Conway, age 48, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 in Mobile, Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Bay Minette, Ala. for most of her life. She enjoyed doing crosswords, reading and playing solitaire. She was a member of the Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church .

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Hartley.
Mrs. Conway is survived by her father, Herman M. Hartley of Bay Minette, Ala.; husband of 29 years, David Conway, of Bay Minette, Ala.; two sons, Brian (Heather) Conway of Prattville, Ala., and Chris (Maegan) Conway of Irvington, Ala.; three sisters, Tammy (John) Cole of Blountsville, Ala., Kathy (Harold) Wilder of Kimberly, Ala., and Sherry (Jeremy) Bryars of Bay Minette; three grandchildren, Bryson, Memphis and Hunter and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating. Burial followed at McCullough Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday, February 26, 2021 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Bryars, John Boyette, Taylor Cole, Harold Wilder, Ashton Wilder and Jake Bryars.

Beatrice “Beadie” Weaver                                  

Mrs. Beatrice “Beadie” Weaver, age 65, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in Atmore, Ala.

She was a native and former resident of Perdido, Ala. and had resided in Atmore for the past seven years. She attended Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Alean Weaver and brother, Bob Weaver.

Mrs. Weaver is survived by her loving cousins and caregivers, Richard and Rhonda Boutwell of Perdido, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Lottie Methodist Cemetery.

Gween Dale “Pop/Big Daddy” Findley

Mr. Gween Dale “Pop/Big Daddy” Findley, age 78, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at his home in Flomaton, Ala. He was born in Century, Fla. and had resided in Flomaton, Ala. for most of his life. He was an employee with St. Regis Paper Company, a salesman with Turner Chevrolet and G&G Motors, all in East Brewton, Ala. His hobbies were working, spending time with his family, loving his grandchildren, going on vacation with his family, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Voncille Findley; brother, Russell Findley; and grandson by love, James Fuqua.
Mr. Findley is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Elvennia Findley of Flomaton; three sons, Greg Findley (DeAnna Ross), Destry (Tammy) Findley, all of Flomaton, Ala, and Jack Taylor of Montgomery, Ala.; two daughters, Kris (Todd) White of Pollard, Ala. and Katie Findley of Flomaton; one sister, Judy (Woodrow) Courtney of Flomaton; sister-in-law, Karen Cash of Flomaton; special aunt, Beulah Nisewonger; four grandchildren, Blakelee (Bo) Ramer, Peyton (Tyler) Smith, Cade White and Paige Findley and numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives, brothers- and sisters-in-law and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Johnson and Bro. Brian Richburg officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Home Cemetery.

Jack Curtis Lufkin

Lufkin

Mr. Jack Curtis Lufkin, age 94, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, February 26, 2021.  He was born to the late Alline Curtis and Sewell Marriott Lufkin, Sr. in Atmore, Ala.  He attended Escambia County High School. Prior to graduation he enlisted in The United States Navy during World War II.  He was a graduate of Auburn University and went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Troy University. He retired following service as a member of The Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole. He was a member of Cottage Hill Presbyterian Chapel in Stockton, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Farish Lufkin and his brother, Sewell Marriott Lufkin, Jr.

Mr. Lufkin is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn Lufkin (George) Stuart of Bay Minette, Ala., Patricia Ann Lufkin of Atmore, and Elizabeth Curtis Lufkin (Tim) Tucker of Uriah, Ala.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Lay Speaker John Lester Peavy officiating.

Arnold Lavon Macks

Mr. Arnold Lavon Macks, age 75, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla.
He was a native and life-long resident of Century, Fla. He loved his daughter and grandsons, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was a retired welder with various companies and a truck driver. He was of the Holiness Faith.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his daughter, Lorraine Macks; parents, Leonard and Helen Macks, and two brothers, Wayne Macks and Donnie Macks.
Mr. Macks is survived by one daughter, Selema (Mike) Hammond of Century; four brothers, Leonard (Jane) Macks, Joe Eddie (Vicky) Macks, Ronnie Macks and Tommy (Cathy) Macks all of Century; two grandsons, Michael (Jessie) Hammond of Milton, Fla. and Matthew Hammond of Century and one great-grandson, Sammy Hammond of Milton, Fla.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Annette D. Roberts

Ms. Annette D. Roberts, age 61, of Daphne, Ala., passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021.  She was born in Atmore, Ala., to the late W.C. and Lottie McGhee Daughtry. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and St. Anna’s Episcopal Church. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jim Roberts, and three brothers, Delaine Daughtry, William Todd Daughtry and Andy Daughtry. 

Ms. Roberts is survived by her daughter, Amanda (Christopher) Roberts-Bell; her half-brother, Jack Daughtry of Atmore; her sisters, Sheila (Joe) Lowe, Glenda McCaw and Sara Rone, all of Atmore; her grandchildren, Jaylen, Keelan and Skylen; one nephew, many nieces and a special friend she considered her son, James Yates. 

Funeral service will be held Friday, March 5, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Judson Indian Cemetery in Poarch, Ala. 

The family will receive friends Friday, March 5, 2021 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Roy Wayne Dunn

Mr. Roy Wayne Dunn, age 68, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home in Mineola, Ala. He was born in Atmore, Ala., former resident of Davisville, Fla. and had resided in Mineola for most of his life. He loved his family, fishing, being outdoors and staying in touch with his classmates. He was a kind humble man, who trusted in the Lord Jesus. He was a construction worker doing Iron Work and Carpentry and he was a race car builder and driver.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Liz and Hilton “Cornbread” Davis, and brother-in-law, Doyle Gregg.
Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Iris Jones Dunn of Mineola; two sons, Chris (Miranda) Dunn of Mineola and Randall (Haley) Reed of Atmore; four grandchildren, Stephen Dunn, Ada Dunn, Liza Centers and Anna Reed; siblings, Joan (Bruce) Lang of Brandon, Miss., Betty Gregg of Atmore, Joyce Morgan of Hilham, Tenn., Thomas (Donna) Davis of Mineola, Edward Davis of Davisville, Betty McGhee Peacock of Poarch, and Johnny McGhee of Canoe, Ala., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Peavy officiating. Burial will follow at the Mineola Methodist Cemetery.

Jacqueline Benjamin, of Brewton, Ala., passed away, Tuesday, February 23, 3021 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Dorothy Jean Lambert-Dennis

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Lambert-Dennis, age 67, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021. She was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Odell and Lillie Mae Lambert. She was a member of Old Ship Missionary Baptist Church. She was a retired worker for the Escambia County Satellite Offices but remained an employee after retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, MacAurther Dortch; sisters, Mary Dortch, Betty Montgomery, Debra Lambert-Brown; and nephews, Wendell Montgomery and Kendrick Dortch.

Mrs. Lambert-Dennis is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Dennis of Atmore; son, Dewight (Jutuan) Lambert of Bloomington, Minn.; granddaughters, Christina and Victoria Lambert of Brewton, Ala.; sister, Judith C. Lambert of Atmore; brother, Willie Ray Dortch of Atmore; brother-in-law, Glen Brown of Atmore; special sister-in-law, Geraldine Dennis of Atmore; special cousin, Shasta Powers of Atmore; special friends, Barbara Poole-Harris, Cecelia Andrews, Cynthia Dailey and Shelia Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Shellie Ann Sharp

Mrs. Shellie Ann Sharp, age 67, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, February 22, 2021. She was born to the late Emmitte and Sarah Rezurta Bryant in Bay Minette, Ala. She was a member of Mt. Gillead Baptist Church and was a member of the Inspirational Choir. She was also a member of Goodwill Chapter No. 845 Missionary Society and Youth Department. She was an inspiration to anyone she came in contact with.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Brown and Geralean Brown; adopted mom, Lizzie Mae Dailey; and special friend Marion White.

Mrs. Sharp is survived by her devoted husband, Eddie Ray Sharp, Sr.; one daughter, Bridget (Chris) DuBose; two sons, Eddie Ray (Victoria) Sharp; Cedric (Asha) Sharp; six grandchildren, Janae Brown, Preston Debose, Sterling Sharp, Kingston Sharp, Rico Sharp and Ce’Maya Sharp; sister, Willie Dean Knighton; devoted adopted brothers, Arthur Lee Costic and Alfred Ingram; mother-in-law, Rosie Lee Sharp; sisters-in-law, Mary (Willie) Williams and Rosie Williams; brothers-in-law, Alfred (Debra)  and Elder Jasper Lee Brown; special mom and dad, Leslie (Murry) Hill; adopted mom, Reatha Quarker; special devoted friends, Mildred McKenzie, Johnny and Mary Dubose, Vernice Dailey, Charnette House, Barbara Hartley, Goddaughters, Brittany and Darlene Murphy; Godson, Eric Dailey; devoted nephew, Bernard Bryant; and host of nieces, nephews and friends.
