Atmore man charged with attempted murder in Friday shooting

An Atmore man was arrested today (Saturday, Sept. 12) in connection with a shooting that took place here Friday afternoon.

Amirr Raheem English, 21, is charged with attempted murder in the incident. He was processed at 1:25 p.m. today into the Escambia County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond until a bond hearing can be arranged.

According to a press release issued Saturday by Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks, the shooting incident occurred around 2:17 p.m. Friday when reports were received of “several gunshots being fired near the intersection of Robinson Street and Maxwell Street.”

First-arriving patrol officers discovered several shell casings in the roadway and learned that an unidentified male had been shot. The victim was reportedly taken by private vehicle to Atmore Community Hospital, where his condition was not immediately known.

Witnesses told police that two males exited a blue van and began firing toward a crowd of people. After discharging numerous rounds, the suspects fled.

On Saturday — accompanied by Bay Minette police officers and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office deputies — APD investigators served English with an attempted murder warrant at an undisclosed location in Baldwin County.

The investigation is ongoing, and Brooks said more arrests will likely be forthcoming.
