Margaret Ann “Cricket” Brown

Brown

Ms. Margaret Ann “Cricket” Brown, age 64, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla.  She was born in Century, Fla. She lived most of her life in Bratt, Fla. and was a member of Bratt Assembly of God Church.  She loved her family and was an avid fan of New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Braves baseball. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Estelle Buckhault; her daughter, Wendy Waller and infant grandson, Marcus Boutwell, Jr. 

Ms. Brown is survived by her daughter, Tina Brown (Ernest) Rolin of Poarch; two sisters, Helen (Larry) Lassitter of Atmore, Ala. and Connie (Ronnie) Whatley of Perdido, Ala.; her grandchildren, Houston Waller (Annie Cooper) and Peyton Waller (Shawn McKinley), Whitney Westbrook (Mason Jones), Keiana and Nikolas McBride and Niko and Niyah Godwin; her great- grandchildren, Alaiah, Thomas and Kairi and her nieces, Kasey Atkins, Kelli and Kimberly Boatwright, Karen McLauthon, Jennifer (Scott) Lassitter and her nephew, Blake Lassitter. 

Funeral service will be held Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kathy Stopel officiating. Interment will follow at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Houston Waller, Shawn McKinley, Mason Jones, Henry Wiggins, Adam Young, Jamie Young, Andrew Lusk and Brian Waller. 

The family will receive friends Friday, September 11, 2020 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Larry Condrey 

Mr. Larry Condrey, age 57, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at his home in Walnut Hill, Fla. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Walnut Hill, FL for the past thirty years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, avid fisherman and hunter. He was employed with Passin Thur Hauling with six years of service.

He was preceded in death by his son, J.W. Condrey; mother, Minnie Lois Garrett and step-father, Elvin Garrett.
Mr. Condrey is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Susan Condrey of Walnut Hill; two daughters, Ashley Condrey of Walnut Hill and Amanda Condrey of Webb, Ala.; father-in-law, Earl and Juanita Gunn of Huxford, Ala. and six grandchildren, Noah Condrey, Justin Powell, Andrew Powell, Haley Cooper, Alexis Condrey and Nicholas Condrey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pine Barren Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Tammy Annette Blackwell

Mrs. Tammy Annette Blackwell, age 57, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in Rome, Ga. She was a native of Brewton, Ala. and had resided in Cedar Bluff, Ala. for the past thirteen years. She was safety director with J-Mar Trucking in Atmore, Ala. for many years and was a secretary for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She loved being outdoors fishing and hunting and was a member of the Hall’s Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Ann Knowles Lord; brother, Rodney Lord and uncle, Curtis Knowles. 

Mrs. Blackwell is survived by her father, Johnny Lord of Garfield, Ky.; husband of thirty three  years, Pernell S. Blackwell of Cedar Bluff; one son, Keilan (Allison) Lord of Centre, Ala.; two daughters, Chastity (Clint) Salter of Brewton and Amber Blackwell (Joshua Thompson) of Leesburg, Ala.; two brothers, Daniel Lord of Birmingham, Ala. and Vince (Vicki) Lord of Cullman, Ala.; one sister, Lorie (James) Mims of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Rhonda (Wayne) Stringer of Atmore and nine grandchildren, Drake, Tori, Kole, Payton, Kacen, Gage, Brooklyn, Makayla and Kamden. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Harris officiating. Burial followed at Hall’s Creek Baptist Cemetery. 

The family received friends Friday, September 11, 2020 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers were Jamie Boutwell, Anthony Boutwell, Brandon Moore, Wayne Stringer, Clay Stringer and Josh Thompson.

Alton Lee Watts

Deacon Alton Lee Watts, age 86, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020. He was born in Evergreen, Ala. to Evant and Marcellus Watts. He was a graduate of Washington Carver High School in Century, Fla. He was employed at St. Regis Paper Company in Cantonment, Fla.  and then at Monsanto until retirement. During that time he earned his Associate Degree in Business from Faulkner State Junior College and taught a brief time at Holman Correctional Facility. He served as a board member of the Escambia County Health Authority for twenty-two years; president of the Atmore Quarterback Club for thirty-years; member of the Zoning Board; member of the Prince Hall Masons; Mt. Gillead Lodge #303 and Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church where he remained faithful until his death. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher in the Adult Class #1. He was also a member of the Layman, the Missionary, the Male Chorus and the Brotherhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Watts; brothers, Floyd and Theodore Watts and one sister, Lois Jefferson.

Deacon Watts is survived by his wife of over sixty-one years, Mamie; son, Anthony (Erica) Watts, Sr. of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister, Eva Laster of Pensacola, Fla; four grandchildren, Jubrae Watts, Ashley Watts, Anthony (Marijiah) Watts, Jr., all of Chattanooga, Brittany Watts of Atlanta, Ga., great-granddaughter, Morgan Shropshire; daughter-in-law, Carlethia Watts of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Micheal (Mary) Salter of  Reddick, Fla.; sister-in-law, Sarah Watts of Highland, Ca., Vivian Salter of Flomaton, Ala., Ida (Henry) Guice of Apple Springs, Texas; God-children, Greg McPherson of Atlanta, Ga., Kenneth (Mary) McPherson of Brantley, Ala., Vangela (Walter) Franklin, Van (Angelice) McPherson of Egg Harbor, N.J., Van McPherson III, Tiffany McPherson, Alton  Gray, Shanda Williams and family and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; special neighbors, Cornell (Mavis) Torrence, McKinley (Gola) Dailey, Alfred (Genie) Johnson, Daniel (Felicia) Lyles and Shelton Frye.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor and eulogist. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were the Deacons and Brotherhood.

Flower bearers were his nieces.

Willie James Jackson

Graveside services were held for Willie James Jackson Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his one son, James McWilliams from Jacksonville, Fla.

Jessie Jones

Mr. Jessie Jones, age 71, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, September 3, 2020. He was born to Cleveland and Edna Mae Boggan Jones. He enjoyed farming and most of all driving the tractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Francis D. Jones; siblings, Sue Lee Boggan Freeman (James), Jeno Jones, Jimmie Jones, Ozell Jones, Willie Jones, Frazzer Jones, Shirley Malesa Jones, Brenda Ann Jones, Ann Rose Jones (Eddie Curry).

Mr. Jones is survived by five children, Otis Gean Dortch, Jessie Marie Pittman, Joseph Jones, Anglea (Anthony) Holt, Debra (Hercules) Betts; thirteen grandchildren; Otis Dortch, Jr., Alexandra McCall, Orlando Jones, Marco Cunningham, Ieasha Jones, Nicholas (Cheyann) Butts, Willie Pittman, Anthony Holt, Antonio (Ty) Holt, Shakeila Betts, Aaliyah Holt, Tahj Jones, Austin Holt and Zoey Betts; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice (David) Johnson of Crestview, Fla., Betty Jean (Bishop Claude) Brown of Spanish Fort, Ala., Hatty (Butch) Jones  Howard, Calvin Earl (Annette) Jones of Mobile, Ala., Patricia (Clyde) Boatwright,   of S. C., Kay Wood (Lisa) Jones of Beaver Falls, Penn., Barbara Jean (Morris) Jones-Chatman of Beaver Falls.                                                                                    

Graveside services were held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Bishop Claude Brown, officiating Eulogist.

Leroy Knight, Sr.

Elder Leroy Knight, Sr., age 83, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020. He was born in Conecuh County, Ala. to Clem and Clara Watts Knight. He was a 1957 graduate of Escambia County Training School. He was employed with Mike Simpson Fertilizer for twenty-eight years and Sunbelt Chemicals for more than twenty-plus years He was a founding member of one of the greatest quartets in history, “The Southern Echoes.” He traveled extensively with The Southern Echoes. He was an advocate for Christ. He loved praising and worshiping God and in later years established the renowned quartet group, “Elder Leroy Knight and the Knight Singers.” He was one of the founding members of Jones Street True Pentecostal Holiness Church in January 1977. He moved his leadership ability and skills from Liberty Missionary Baptist Church to Jones Street True Pentecostal Holiness Church and served as the only deacon for many, many years.

In 1993, he was called into ministry and became a licensed Elder under the leadership of his pastor, friend and brother, Bishop Dr. Willie L. Williams. In 2003 Bishop Williams appointed him as the assistant pastor of Jones Street True Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served faithfully until his demise. He served in several capacities such as president of Jones Street Male Chorus and Church Treasurer. For 50 plus years, he assisted Bishop Williams on the local radio broadcast as it became a form of outreach ministry to reach those confined to their homes, hospitals, nursing facilities and prison walls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Ike and Lizzie Knight and Garth and Pearlie Watts; siblings, Essie, Jessie James, Jerome, Earl Lee, Ivan Dale, Hazel Knight, Bobbie Jean, Lois and Pearl; daughters, Bobbie Knight and Juanita Knight; one son, Leroy Knight, Jr.

Elder Knight is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Missionary Lula Knight; children, Sharta Pryear-Morrison, Luverne Pierce, Willie (Sandra) Knight, Thomas (Angelia) Knight, Kimberly (Reginald) McCants; sister, Pastor Irma J. Wilson; God-daughter, Andria (Christopher) Jones; bonus children, Layton (Chelsea) Knight, Jemesha Knight, Tamesha Knight and LeTequia Knight; daughter-in-law, Wanda Knight; son-in-law, Greg Pierce; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Knight, Minnie Knight, Ollie Knight, Dorothy McMillian, Voncille Robinson, Dorothy Lee and Odessa Lee Jones; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; devoted friends, Bishop Dr. Willie Williams, Theodore White, Clifton Shoemoe, Dan Robinson, Bishop Andrew Hawthorne; devoted cousin, John Aaron (Bernadette) Riley of Pensacola, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel’s Faith Center with Bishop Wayne Johnson, Host Pastor, Bishop Catadro North presiding and Prophet Shawn Williams, Pastor of Jones Street Messenger of Strength. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Floral attendants were his granddaughters.
