News Staff Report
A second meeting between city officials and local ministers to try and repair the racial rift within the city will take place at 5 p.m. this Thursday, June 18, at Atmore City Hall.
The first such meeting, held two weeks ago (June 4) and attended by more than a dozen local ministers, black and white, brought little in the way of a concrete plan to bestow racial harmony on the city and its citizens but did generate an agreement that more such meetings were necessary.
“This is a positive,” Mayor Jim Staff said of this week’s meeting. “We’re supposed to be healing, and I think this is one way to do it, to have dialogue.”
Unlike the June 4 session, Thursday’s meeting is open to the general public. Those who wish to attend are urged to come early, since seating will be limited due to coronavirus-sparked social distancing.
The meeting will be held in the city hall auditorium.
