Destructive blaze

Atmore Fire Department Capt. Daniel Love uses a pike pole to yank sheets of aluminum from the flames of a Nokomis home that was destroyed by a March 27 fire. Nokomis volunteer firefighters were dispatched at 10:12 p.m. to the Katelyn Lane home, which was being remodeled and was unoccupied. NVFD Capt. Jerry Gehman said the home’s roof had already collapsed when firefighters arrived, so the priority was preventing the spread of the flames to the woods surrounding the structure. AFD units responded under a mutual aid pact.
