Atmore native killed in single-car mishap during visit home

Gordon Nichols was killed early Friday, November 29, in a single-vehicle crash on Deere Creek Road. Nichols, an Atmore native and Escambia County High School graduate, was reportedly visiting family members in Atmore over Thanksgiving.
Nichols, 28, worked as a community property manager for The Shopping Center Group’s Birmingham office. The son of Randy and Melissa Nichols of Atmore, he graduated from the University of Alabama in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Business Administration. He was the grandson of Ann Waller and the late Hal Waller, and the late I.G. and Joyce Nichols.
According to Alabama State Trooper reports, the fatal crash occurred around 2:45 a.m., when his southbound 2010 Ford Edge left the roadway and struck a tree as it entered the sharp curve just north of Brushy Creek.
A memorial service will be held for Nichols at 4 p.m. Thursday, December 4, in Escambia County High School Hodnette Auditorium.
