Legion, Auxiliary honor youth

It was a night to honor youth.
Members of the American Legion Post 90 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 90 held their annual Christmas dinner and celebration Friday, Dec. 14 – with the spotlight on the Junior Auxiliary.
Legion Commander Billy Elder welcomed everyone and turned the program over to Auxiliary President Mary Stanley who introduced special guests. Junior Auxiliary Director Gayle Johnson presented information about the Junior Auxiliary program, emphasizing not only patriotism but also scholarship opportunities for members.
Youngsters participating in the celebration were Ellie Wooten, Pledge of Allegiance; Jade Barrette, patriotic song sing-along; Auxiliary Chaplain and Junior President Katelyn Carnley, blessing of the food; Little Miss Poppy Jordan Salter, Story of the Memorial Poppy; Miss Poppy Breanna McGowan, POW/MIA Table; Autumn Reid, report on Girls State; President Katelyn Carnley, overview of Auxiliary program and closing prayer.
1st Lt. Kristina Hughes was scheduled to speak, but was detained on base longer than expected and didn’t make it to the Legion Hall on time.
