On April 12, Youth Leadership Atmore visited the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery. We had the opportunity to meet State Treasurer Young Boozer, Representative Alan Baker, and Chief Justice Lyn Stuart (who was born and raised in Atmore and graduated from Escambia County High School).

The first stop on our trip was at the Alabama State House, where we were given a behind the scenes tour led by Representative Alan Baker. We walked on the House floor and sat in the representatives’ seats, while Alan Baker explained to us the importance of his job. Alan Baker then took us up to the Senate floor, where we were able to view the floor through the gallery.

Our next stop on the visit was touring the Alabama State Capitol, but first, Alan Baker took us through the underground tunnel, which connects the Alabama State House and the Capitol, that not many people have access to or even know about. From there we toured the Capitol, had lunch with Alan Baker, walked through The Civil Rights Memorial Center, and ended the day at the Judicial Building where we met Chief Justice Lyn Stuart.

This trip to the State Capitol wraps up the many trips Youth Leadership Atmore has been on throughout the school year.
Graduation will be held on April 29, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Atmore at 3 p.m.
