Council upholds rezoning denial

Atmore’s city council, meeting for the first time since May 8, made quick work of a two-item agenda during the panel’s Monday, June 12, session. Actually, it became a one-item agenda when Tonya Hudson, organizer of Fight Against Darkness Warfare Walkers, was not in attendance to ask approval for an upcoming event, the details of which were not disclosed, that was to encompass both Tom Byrne and Houston Avery parks.…

Clarification

In last week’s edition of Atmore News (June 7, 2017), one of the names on the Circuit Court Docket was listed as Matthew McGhee, no middle name or middle initial. Following a phone call from the family of Matthew John McGhee, we checked with the court clerk’s office and verified that the accused is Matthew Lance McGhee.

The Atmore Chamber of Commerce is hosting Breakfast with an Elected Official Thursday, June 15, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., at the Chamber. Judge Jeff White will be the guest.

Children left alone when suspect flees

A Brewton man, already the subject of a felony arrest warrant, was further charged with leaving two children alone in the East Brewton house from which he apparently fled to avoid arrest. According to Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reports, deputies were sent to 402 Victory Street shortly after midnight last Wednesday (May 31) to arrest 24-year-old Timothy Tyrone Dees, for whom a felony warrant on unspecified charges had been issued.…

Airport awarded fuel farm funds

U.S. Congressman Bradley Byrne’s office announced last week that Atmore Municipal Airport will receive an allocation from an open-ended Federal Aviation Administration grant to fund construction of a planned single-pump fueling facility. The $150,618 in federal funds, part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, will assist the general aviation airport in constructing a “fuel farm,” which will allow it to become a self-sustaining entity by generating revenue through sales of…
