Atmore police are investigating the second homicide within the city over the past five days after an early morning (Monday, August 7) home invasion left a Broad Street resident dead and his wife or female partner in critical condition.
Police have still not released the identities and relationships of the shooting victims, but Chief Chuck Brooks said he would provide the names and some of the details later today.
Police and medics were called to 170 Broad Street around 3 a.m. after residents in the area reported gunshots. Police arrived to find the couple inside their home, both badly wounded. The perpetrator was nowhere to be found.
Last Thursday, August 3, a Camden man – Shawn Oneil Quarles, 31 – was shot to death around 10:30 p.m. as he biked along Ann Street on his way to a local store for cigarettes. Police reportedly have no leads or suspects in that shooting.
Both APD homicide investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information that might help police with their probe is urged to call 251-368-9141.
