A morning of fun activities for local youngsters is in store from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 21, as Atmore Area YMCA hosts its annual Healthy Kids Day.
Although several activities, such as arts and crafts tables, will be held inside, the main thrust of the national observance is to promote healthy fun for kids.
To that end, the day will actually start at 7:45 a.m., when runners, walkers and bicycle riders participate in the annual 5K event. Pre-registration is required for the run-walk-ride and those who wish to take part may call 368-9622 or drop by the Y’s 501 South Pensacola Avenue facility.
Following the 5K trek and welcoming comments from local officials, the day’s activities will include a bouncy house, a hula hoop contest, a paper airplane construction and flying contest and other contests and games.
Another popular activity scheduled for the day is the annual tae kwon do demonstration by members of the Golden Dragons class, which in the past has included hands-on participation by attendees.
The event, designed to promote healthy out-of-school activities for kids, will also include informational booths and booths where free health screenings will be offered.
