Judy Lucille Smith
Ms. Judy Lucille Smith, age 70, of Canoe, Ala., passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at her residence. She was a retired nurse at D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Goodway, Ala. to the late Marshall and Cornelia Lucille Handcock Bowman. She was a member of Robinsonville Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Lassiter.

Ms. Smith is survived by one son, Brandon (Sharon) Smith of Canoe; one granddaughter, Madelyn Smith and her very special cousin, JoAnn Martin.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. from Robinsonville Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Jones officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Shawn Lassiter, Larry Lassiter, Coach David Walker, Jerry James, Ray Lowrey, and Chris Smith.

Honorary pallbearer was Shannon Lassiter.

The family received friends Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robinsonville Baptist Church.

Eddie Jerrell Muse
Mr. Eddie “Ed” Jerrell Muse, age 79, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017. He was born in Canadian, Texas to Tom and Mae Muse. He served in the United States Navy from 1955, with duty stations aboard the USS Roosevelt, USS Wasp, USS Lexington, Mayport, Fla., Lakehurst, N.J., Virginia Beach, Va., Ellison Field, Fla., NAS Pensacola Fla. until 1977.

He lived many years in Cottage Hill, Fla. He was a member of Cottage Hill Assembly of God Church, where he served as Deacon. The last place he called home was with Raymond and his family, who loved and cared for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Ward Muse; two step-sons, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Muse is survived by his wife, Eloise Jackson Muse; his Texas family, one brother, Harper (Betty) Muse, one niece, one nephew and their children; great-grandson, Raymond E. Love (Ashley Rossel) whom he and wife, Ruby raised as their son; five step-children, DeLois Brown, Tommy (Kathy) Ward, Joyce (Arnold) Burkett, Bennie (Jenny) Ward, Barbara (Donnie) Kilcrease; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Hudson officiating. Burial followed at Byrneville Methodist Cemetery with full military honors.

The family received friends Friday, August 4, 2017 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Ray Love, Shane Burkett, Bo Martin, Bennie Ward, Michael Ward and B.J. Ward.

Honorary pallbearer was Butch Blackmon.

George Edward Jay
Mr. George Edward Jay, age 83, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at his residence. He was retired from Stone Container as a bag maker. He was born in Purdue Hill, Ala. to the late George Harper and Annie Laura Brown Jay. He was a member of West End Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laura Rawls and Betty DeFee.

Mr. Jay is survived by his wife, Jessie Greene Jay of Atmore; two sons, George Allen (Shelly) Jay and Frank Edward (Karen) Jay, all of Atmore; two daughters, Julia Elizabeth Norwood of Atmore and Laura Lee (Paul) McKinley of Callahan, Fla.; three brothers, Mitchell Jay of
Grove Hill, Ala., Frank Jay of Mexia, Ala. and Howard Jay of Phoenix City, Ala.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alen Chace officiating. Interment followed in Rocky Hill Cemetery, Purdue Hill.

Active pallbearers were William Norwood, John Norwood, Jeffery Norwood, Kirby Jay, David Jay and Jason Jay.

Carmine Apostalo Gibson
Mrs. Carmine Apostalo Gibson, age 66, of Atmore, Ala., formally of Port O’ Connor Texas passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017. She was born to the late Paul Apostalo, Sr. and Lucy Laborde Apostalo. She enjoyed family time, playing scrabble, singing and playing her guitar. She was owner of Carmine’s Cajun kitchen in Port O’ Connor. Quiet time was spent with a cup of coffee and her loyal little Penny by her side.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Apostalo, Jr. and step-daughters, Tina and Ida.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband, Larry Gibson, Sr.; daughters, Christina Steele and Amy Steele de la Gardelle (Keith); step-mother, Sara Apostalo; sister, Celeste Apostalo; grandchildren, Kaleb, Aidan and Lauren de la Gardelle, Roman Steele and step-son, Larry Gibson, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Rebecca and Elizabeth Garcia and Kayla Gibson and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 1p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Tedder.

Susan Colbert Davis
Mrs. Susan Colbert Davis, age 54, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a native of Atmore, Ala. and has resided in Bay Minette, Ala. the past fifteen years. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Rabun New Testament Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Colbert and two sisters, Mary Davis and Barbara Hadley.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Junior Davis of Bay Minette; three step-daughters, Angela Davis, Rhonda Davis and Gail Davis all of Bay Minette; two nieces, Kelly Milstid of Bay Minette and Cotrena (Lucas) Andrews of Poarch, Ala.; one nephew, Curly (April) Davis of Jay, Fla. and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Monday, August 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Bro. Bubba Rolin officiating. Burial followed at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Johnathon Davis, Justin Davis, Chris Branum, Ethan Branum, Shorty Bryars and Kenneth Jackson.

Peter “P.T.” Burrell
Mr. Peter “P.T.” Burrell, age 83, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Atmore Nursing Care Center. He was a native of Clarke County, Ala. and a longtime resident of Atmore where he worked in farming and pulpwood.

He was a member of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis Community and enjoyed fishing and playing the guitar.

He was preceded in death by his wife Willie Burrell; three sons, Perry, Rochester, and Peter, Jr.; his parents, Roosevelt and Martha Burrell and four brothers, Joe, David, Roosevelt, and Andrew.

Mr. Burrell is survived by a daughter, Lori Burrell Humphrey of Milwaukee, Wis.; four sisters, Channie Roberts, Fannie Brown, Mary Curry, and Agnes Wilson all of Atmore and host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church – Nokomis with Rev. Dennis K. Stephens, Pastor, officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery.

Henry Hubert, Sr.
Mr. Henry Hubert, Sr., age 91, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017. He was born to the late Percy and Lalar B. Hubert in Butler County, Ala. He was a WWII Veteran have served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46.

He retired from Monsanto after 28 years. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed fishing, cooking and riding his favorite lawnmower every day.

He was preceded in death by two children, Eugene and Norma L. Huber and six siblings.

Mr. Hubert is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Lula M. Hubert; children, Robert Hubert of Ozark, Ala., Leonard (Gail) Hubert of Columbus, Ohio, Henry Hubert, Jr. of Town Creek, Bob (Charlotte) Hubert of Chattanooga, Tenn., Marvin (Angela) Hubert of Clinton Township, Mich., Alonzia Hubert, Darlene Nolen, Marlene Nolen Poindexter, all of Atmore, Karen (Layton) Hubert Frye of Tallahassee, Fla. and Anthony Hubert of Milledgeville , Ga.; four sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; daughter-in-law; twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gillead Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Alfonzia Williams, eulogist.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Flower bearers were his granddaughters and nieces.

Robert Earl Kennedy
Mr. Robert Earl Kennedy, age 56, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017. He was a native of Monroeville, Ala. and was a member of Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Church, Atmore.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by one son, Donnell Miles of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Bridget Peoples of Mobile, Ala. and Roshelle Battles of Houston; one brother, Prince (Francis) Kennedy of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Kennedy (Rev. CL) Thomas of Houston, Texas; eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Church with F. D. Banks, Pastor and eulogist. Burial will follow at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Finchburg, Ala.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 11, 2017 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Penn’s Funeral Home
