A Brewton man, currently serving his fourth state-prison term since 2007, was denied parole during recent hearings by the Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles.
Michael Lee McCreary was arrested by Brewton police during an undercover drug operation in 2021 for allegedly distributing methamphetamine, crack cocaine and Alprazolam, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety disorder or panic disorder.
He was also charged with violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) for failure to register with authorities.
He was sentenced to 15 years on the SORNA violation, with a 3-year concurrent sentence tacked on for the drug charges. He has served slightly more than three years of the sentence.
McCreary served less than two years of a 5-year sentence he received in 2017 for two SORNA violations and distribution of a controlled substance; served all but a day or two of a 3-year term to which he was sentenced in 2013 for third-degree burglary and distribution of a controlled substance, and did all but a few days of a 2-year, 6-month sentence he was handed in 2007 after his conviction on charges of third-degree burglary and interference with custody.
The Brewton man, currently housed at Staton Correctional Facility, will remain behind bars until December 16, 2032 unless he is granted a parole or pardon.
