Area authorities investigated five incident during the period June 30-July 5 that resulted in non-drug felony arrests for five Atmore residents.
*Atmore police reports show that Anthony Tyrone Armstrong, 57, was arrested June 30 on two weapons charges and two drug-related offenses after he was pulled over for driving along North Main Street without headlights.
Sgt. Darrell McMann reported that officers “detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage about Armstrong’s person” and noted “his speech was slurred” after the traffic stop was made around 11:30 p.m.
When the Atmore man could not pass a roadside sobriety test, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. A search of the vehicle turned up a straw that contained a white, powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, as well as a handgun that was under the driver’s seat.
Armstrong is forbidden to possess a firearm due to a prior felony conviction. The officer also discovered the gun had been altered to obscure its serial number, make and model.
He was processed into the county jail on felony counts of possession of a pistol by a violent felon, possession of an altered firearm and possession of a controlled substance, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.
Armstrong was released on bond July 6.
*Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 25-year-old Johnathan Michael Parker July 2 on several charges.
Parker remained in jail Monday afternoon, July 10. He is charged with one count each of obstruction of justice by using a false ID and first-degree escape, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor charges of attempting to elude law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia.
*Hailey Riana Evans, 22, was taken into custody June 30 by sheriff’s deputies.
Evans remained in jail Monday afternoon, July 10, charged with one count of second-degree assault, a Class C felony.
*Poarch police arrested 20-year-old Dawson Carl Cox July 1 on several charges related to a domestic incident.
Cox, who was still in jail Monday afternoon, July 10, is charged with one count each of making a terroristic threat (a Class C felony) and three misdemeanor charges — third-degree domestic violence (harassment), third-degree domestic violence (criminal mischief) and third-degree criminal mischief.
*Brandon Shane Eugene Joiner, 39, was booked into the county jail for the ninth time since 2011 after his July 1 arrest by sheriff’s deputies.
Joiner is charged with one count each of second-degree assault (a Class C felony) and third-degree theft of property (a Class D felony), as well as misdemeanor charges of third-degree criminal mischief and menacing. He was still behind bars Monday afternoon, July 10.
