House Republicans are fulfilling the commitment to America

Congressman Jerry Carl

Last year, House Republicans campaigned on our Commitment to America, which is our promise to the American people that we will fight for a nation that’s secure, an economy that’s strong, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable. I’m excited to say, we are already delivering on several of these promises this week.
This week, House Republicans are working on several bills to address some of the issues that matter most to you. Our first bill is the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, which would rescind the additional funding made available to the Internal Revenue Service through the Inflation Reduction Act. This would take away the funding to hire the proposed 87,000 new IRS agents.
We are also establishing a Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party to investigate how to bring back hundreds of thousands of jobs that went to China and ensure the U.S. can win the economic and technological competition with China.
Another very important bill we are voting on is the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act. This bill would prohibit the Department of Energy from selling petroleum products (e.g., crude oil) from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to any entity that is under the ownership, control, or influence of the Chinese Communist Party.
We are committed to protecting life at all stages, and that’s why the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is also on the agenda this week. This bill would require appropriate medical care for children who survive abortion procedures and impose strong criminal penalties for failure to provide such care. This is a bill I am proud to have cosponsored last Congress, so I’m thrilled to see it finally come up for a vote.
It’s no secret House Democrats had all the wrong priorities the last two years and have spent an unprecedented amount of money on wasteful government programs. As a result, we have high energy prices, crippling inflation, a wide-open southern border, and a nation that is less safe and secure than it used to be.
The American people made their voices heard in November and made it clear they wanted the country to go in a different direction. I’m proud to say House Republicans are already fulfilling our commitment to you so we can get America back on track and address the issues you care about the most.
