New surgeon joins ACH

Atmore Community Hospital (ACH) announced Monday, January 9, that Marc Saunders, D.O., FACS has joined the hospital as a general surgeon.
Dr. Saunders began January 2 and will hold daily clinic at ACH Specialty Care. Dr. Saunders will also be coordinating surgeries with the hospital surgery department.
“We have been working for some time to bring a staff surgeon to Atmore Community Hospital,” ACH Administrator Brad Lowery said. “Dr. Saunders will bring a wealth of surgical experience and will significantly expand access to general surgical care for the Atmore community and surrounding areas.”
Saunders most recently worked as a wound care physician in Miramar, Fla. at Vohra Wound Physicians from 2021 to 2022. Prior to that position, he worked as a general hospital surgeon for Baptist Medical Group in Pensacola, Fla. from 2017 to 2020 and St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, Ohio from 2011 to 2016. Dr. Saunders also was in private practice in Youngstown, Ohio from 1994 to 2004 and again from 2009 to 2016.
Saunders received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, N.Y. He completed his residency training at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Dr. Saunders has been a board certified surgeon since 1995.
“I am delighted that Dr. Saunders will be joining our medical staff. Please help us in welcoming him to the ACH team and Atmore Community,” Lowery said.
Officials stated that once Dr. Saunders gets settled, a welcome event will be scheduled and open to the community to meet him.
