A month after a group of individuals fired nearly four dozen shots into and at a car that was approaching the junction of Main and Howard streets, the sixth and final suspect is now in custody.
Atmore Police Department (APD) officials announced Monday, June 9, that 19-year-old Lemareyoun Moore of Atmore was taken into custody June 6 when he came to police headquarters and surrendered to officers in the facility’s lobby.
Like the other five arrested in connection with the May 7 fusillade — two adults and three 17-year-old juveniles, Moore is charged with one count each of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and discharging a firearm into an unoccupied building. (At least one of the bullets hit a fast-food restaurant that was closed at the time.)
Moore remained in the Escambia County Detention Center (ECDC) early Tuesday, June 10, without bond.
The hail of gunfire was unleashed around 10:30 p.m. as the unidentified victim’s car approached the traffic light at the busy junction. The shooters, who were on the property of Backyard Barns, about 30 yards from their target, cut loose with weapons of two different calibers. Police recovered 47 spent cartridges.
APD investigators were eventually able to identify all six shooters. Atmore residents Dexter Adams, 18, and Ryeheem Banks, 21, were arrested, along with the three local juveniles, each of which are being charged as adults. (None of the three have yet been identified, and their mugshots do not appear on the ECDC website.)
Two of the 17-year-old suspects have also been charged in the April 26 shooting into a residence on East School Street. Each has been charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied building in that incident.
