Area authorities continued at Tuesday’s press deadline their search for a Bay Minette man with a violent criminal past who is wanted in the Friday night, May 23, shooting death of an Atmore man outside a Bay Minette house party.
Bay Minette Police Department (BMPD) officials have obtained an arrest warrant charging 28-year-old Decareus Keywon Mallory Andrews with murder. Andrews is believed to have fired several shots from a handgun into the body of 21-year-old Dyrontae Condarlly Booker.
The fatal shooting took place around 10:20 p.m., outside a birthday party at a Daphne Street residence. He was spotted running from the scene by a policeman who heard the shots.
Booker was taken by ambulance to North Baldwin Infirmary, where he was later officially pronounced dead.
The suspect has a “long history of gun-related crimes,” including at least two prior arrests and at least one conviction for first-degree assault, police reported.
BMPD officials say the shooting was not a random act, that Andrews “targeted” Booker and came to the party with the intention of shooting the Atmore man.
Police warn that Andrews is considered “armed and dangerous” and that no attempt should be made to confront him. Anyone with information that could help police find the murder suspect, or with other information pertinent to the shooting, is urged to either call 251-580-2559 or send an anonymous email to tips@ci.bay-minette.al.us.
