Greyhound, the largest provider of intercity bus services in the U.S., announced that the bus line, a Flix North America company, has expanded its service in Alabama to include two daily stops in Atmore.
Beginning Wednesday, June 4, Greyhound will reinstate curbside passenger pickup and drop-off twice daily at the area next to the train depot adjacent to Atmore City Hall, on East Nashville Avenue. City Economic Planner Chris Walker said the bus will make two daily stops here, at 7:50 a.m. and 8:22 p.m., seven days a week.
Atmore City Council members approved in May a Bus Stop Service Agreement between the city, Greyhound Lines and Flixbus to pave the way for the return of service.
Company officials said in a press release that access to Greyhound buses would bring “affordable and reliable travel options to both urban and rural areas” of the state. It will also link Atmore citizens who can’t or don’t want to fly or drive, directly to Birmingham, Montgomery and Atlanta. Greyhound’s extensive national network also allows indirect access to Houston, Miami, Jacksonville and other Southern cities.
“Expanding service in Alabama reflects the rising demand for affordable, convenient travel in the South and beyond,” said Karina Frayter, head of communications for Flix North America. “From students and young professionals to families and commuters, travelers are prioritizing value and reliability in intercity travel. This added service helps us meet that demand in a rapidly growing region.”
She added that the stops are in response to “strong demand and rising ridership, reflecting a growing preference for affordable, reliable alternatives to driving or flying.”
Tickets for the new route are available online, at greyhound.com or via the Greyhound mobile app.
