Sixty-three-year-old Debra S. “Sis” Albritton, a retired hospice nurse widely known and respected in and around Atmore, was remembered this week by former classmates and family members of former patients as an excellent nurse who treated her patients with compassion and kindness.
Albritton lost her life in a single-vehicle car crash that occurred May 5 on Booneville Road, about 16 miles north of Atmore.
“I graduated with her,” said Donna Fitzpatrick in a posting on the Atmore News Facebook page. “Years later, she was my dad’s hospice nurse and was a blessing to us all.”
Mary Emma Brantley shared similar sentiments.
“Debbie was such a sweet and caring person,” Brantley typed. “She was my mother’s hospice nurse. She always showed great compassion & kindness. She will truly be missed.”
According to reports filed by Alabama State Troopers, the fatal crash occurred around 3:25 p.m. when the 2007 Toyota Camry driven by the former nurse left the roadway and struck a tree.
Albritton was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash — which happened near Booneville Road’s intersection with Long Hollow Road — and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Survivors include husband Steve Albritton and son Ryan Albritton, both of Booneville, son Kyle Albritton of Spanish Fort and daughter Jessica Albritton of McCullough.
