Five of seven Escambia County Board of Education members moved swiftly through a short agenda during the May 8 BOE meeting, approving three spending items and cementing the school system’s summer-employee roster.
The board, with District 1’s Kevin Hoomes and District 4’s Cindy Jackson unable to attend, approved 104 personnel moves, including the hiring of 83 teachers, counselors, maintenance personnel, specialists and support staff for the summer months.
Board members also approved a $110,925 contract with Sun Flooring for installation of additional vinyl flooring for A.C. Moore Primary School’s cafeteria and other areas in preparation for next year’s inclusion of all Atmore-area first-grade students to the school, which already includes pre-K and kindergarten students.
In other action during the meeting, BOE members:
*Approved an out-of-state trip (taken May 9) to Six Flags Over Georgia for selected Escambia County High students as an ACT incentive.
*Approved a May 14 out-of-state trip for selected ECHS students to attend the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Fla.
*Approved the purchase for $32,138.76 of additional science textbooks, from Publisher’s Warehouse, for students in K-12. The book order will be funded with Advancement & Technology (A&T) funds carried over from last fiscal year.
*Approved the purchase from Pocket Nurse of SMART STAT Basic patient simulator, with iPad, for $19,899.45. The purchase will be funded by Operations and Maintenance funds.
