After more than thirty years as a dedicated community leader and lifelong resident, Sandra Gray has announced her candidacy as Mayor of Atmore, Alabama.
Sandra Gray has been married for fifty years to Wayne Gray who retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections after thirty four years of service. Wayne and Sandra have been blessed with four children, thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Sandra Gray is a member of Mt. Gillard Baptist Church, Atmore (Freemanville) Alabama where she serves as a Deaconess, Chairman of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, and Chairman of the Beautification Committee.
Sandra Gray is a graduate of Escambia County High School and attended Jefferson Davis Community College until she and Wayne decided to start a family. While raising her family, Sandra Gray served as a Teacher’s Assistant in Escambia County schools for twenty years.
She has also been a small business owner.
Mrs. Gray has served as a community leader in many volunteer roles with the American Red Cross including, Disaster Relief Coordinator serving Escambia, Conecuh, and Butler Counties.
Sandra Gray is Co-Founder and Vice-President of The Concerned Citizens of Atmore. She presently serves on the Board of Directors for Community Action of South Alabama, Atmore Urban Development, Escambia County Agency on Aging (SHIP) Program, Atmore United Fund, MLK Little League Baseball, Alabama VOAD, Atmore Kiwanis Club, Atmore YMCA, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Sandra Gray is creator and host of a popular radio show “Urban Talk with Sandra Davison Gray” heard weekly on 105.9 WBZR FM station in Atmore. Mrs. Gray’s long-term vision is to create jobs, attract small businesses and industries, support our teachers to improve education, work with federal, state, and local agencies to provide affordable housing, improve parks and recreation centers, update Atmore’s infrastructure and reinforce public safety We will work for:
Economic development. It is important to work with the County Commissioners to create a Joint Economic Development Commission.
Infrastructure. Atmore is in dire need of infrastructure updates like wheelchair accessible sidewalks, bike lanes, better parking and lights at the parks and residential streets, and update our water treatment facility.
Public Safety. I will promote Public Safety Initiatives such as crime prevention programs, city-wide community policing, emergency preparedness, and solutions that address the social issues that contribute to crime.
I have the experience in community service necessary to be an effective leader, and am aware of underserved areas that seemingly have been neglected for decades. I will work diligently to see that all areas of Atmore benefit from federal, state, and local tax dollars needed to improve neighborhood infrastructures.
Together we will build our economy and create a city that works for all of Atmore’s citizens.
