Three juveniles were briefly detained by police, but no charges were filed after several shots were fired early Saturday, April 26, on East School Street.
Atmore Police Department (APD) Sgt. Darrell McMann said city patrol officers heard shots in an area east of South Main Street around 4:45 a.m. and headed in that direction.
As officers looked for signs of the shooting, emergency dispatchers relayed several reports that gunfire was heard in the 300 block of East School Street.
Four juveniles were spotted close to the area of the reported shooting, and police were able to detain three of them, none of whom were armed. They were interviewed, then released to their parents after claiming to have no knowledge of the incident.
The fourth subject had not been identified as of Monday morning, April 28.
McMann said a residence and a vehicle were hit by bullets, but nobody was injured. Officers recovered several spent shell casings from the area, he added.
Anyone with any knowledge of the incident is urged to call city police at 251-368-9141.
