Special to Atmore News
Online child exploitation and sexual abuse are among the most heinous and urgent threats to Atmore’s, and the country’s, children.
Because of that, Atmore Police Department (APD) is now offering a PowerPoint presentation designed to increase public awareness of how online predators locate and prey upon impressionable children, and how to react if a child is victimized.
To encourage parents and trusted adults to start the conversation with their children, APD is introducing its Online Safety Presentation with the hopes it will provide parents and guardians with helpful information and preventive tools to protect their children.
It also includes a set of “best-practice guidelines” for responding to a child if an attempt is made to lure him or her into the lurid world of those who would use social media and other online platforms to pull confused children into their grasp.
The presentation is being offered to any community group, civic organization or church that might be interested. It includes advice on how to manage inappropriate content, grooming, online enticement, sextortion, sexting and cyberbullying.
Anyone interested in presenting the program is urged to contact APD Sgt Darrell McMann at 251-368-9141, ext. 1174, or by email at darrell.mcmann@atmorepolice.us.
