Members of Gamma Omega Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held their February 2 meeting at the home of member Nancy Karrick. Mary Beth Lancaster gave a timely devotion and used Valentine conversation hearts as her topic.
Senator Greg Albritton and his wife, Debbi, reported on their trip to Washington for the inauguration and problems they had with the high winds, low temperatures, and movement of the location of the ceremony.
Senator Albritton addressed the group on House Bill 81 which requires the State Board of Education to adopt a model policy restricting the possession and use of cell phones in public K-12 schools and addresses the discipline and fines for violation. Each local board of education would need to adopt a policy relating to the use and storage of cell phones based on that model. The senator answered members’ questions, and, as teachers, supported the bill.
Sissy Phillips and Nancy Karrick presented a program of the making of quilts and how they can be used in the classroom in areas of math, language arts, and social studies.
Members enjoyed Valentine shaped cookies and a social time after the meeting. The next chapter meeting is scheduled for March 9.
