Century native and one-time Atmore resident, Jeff Peacock has announced his candidacy for U.S. Congress in Florida’s 1st Congressional District. Peacock is running as a Republican in the upcoming special election to fill the congressional seat previously held by Congressman Matt Gaetz. The GOP primary election will be held this Tuesday, Jan. 28th.
Peacock said he plans to be an advocate for working men and women who are often ignored by politicians. Peacock said, “I’m not a career politician looking for a promotion; I’m a teacher. I understand the challenges faced by everyday residents of our district and I want to be their voice in Washington.” Peacock said his candidacy will focus on three key areas: reforming our education system to emphasize more local control, working against inflationary governmental policies that increase the cost of necessities for everyday Americans, and fighting to ensure veterans in our community get the services they deserve.
In his announcement, Peacock said, “As a teacher, I believe all kids deserve a quality education, regardless of whether they grow up in a rich metropolitan suburb or a small rural community. I also believe that everyday working men and women shouldn’t bear the brunt of irresponsible government policies that raise the prices of basic necessities.” Peacock continued, “And I believe our veterans deserve our respect and our gratitude for their service, and as their congressman, I will fight day in and day out to make sure they get the benefits they are entitled to.” Peacock concluded by saying, “My campaign will be guided by ideas, not by rich and powerful special interests.”
In particular, Peacock said he wants to fight for people who live in the north end of the district. Peacock said, “I grew up in Century and I live in Pace. As a member of congress, I won’t forget the people who live north of I-10. I’ll fight for better schools, more economic opportunity, and I’ll make sure our farmers’ voices are heard in Washington.”
Peacock is a native of Century in Escambia County and is a 4th generation resident of the 1st Congressional District. He currently works as a math teacher at Navarre High School. He is married to Jodi Nellums Peacock and they reside in Pace. During his career, Peacock has founded several small businesses, including a video production company in Pensacola and printing companies in Pace and Atmore. Before joining the faculty at Navarre High School, Peacock served as a senior campaign advisor to Congressman Lee Zeldin, President Trump’s nominee for administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Peacock holds degrees from Pensacola Junior College, Florida State University, the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
