An Atmore man, allowed to plead guilty to simple drug possession, and a Brewton man, convicted in 2018 of violating the residency and reporting requirements for registered sex offenders, were each denied parole during recent hearings by the Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles.
Damien Tynell Jenkins

Jenkins

The Atmore man was arrested in January 2024 by county sheriff’s officers and was initially charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was sentenced in July to serve 60 months (5 years) in exchange for a guilty plea to simple possession.
This prison term marks the third time Jenkins has been in state custody since 2004. He served all but a few days of a 1-year sentence he received in 2013 for possession of a controlled substance and served all but a few days of an 18-month sentence he was handed for first-degree marijuana possession.
Jenkins is currently housed at Staton Correctional Facility. According to Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) records, he has served a few days less than a year, including 195 days in the county jail, and has accumulated 292 days of “good time.”
James Steve Tolbert

Tolbert

Tolbert was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act violation. He is actually serving two 15-year sentences for the same crime, but the second is running concurrently with the first.
Tolbert had served just under 2 years and 6 months on the date of his hearing, but ADOC records show he was given credit for the 380 days he spent in jail and 730 days of “pre-time served.” He has also accumulated more than four years (1,530 days) of “good time.”
The Brewton man, who is currently housed at Bullock Correctional Facility, will not be released until May 31, 2027 without parole or a pardon.
